How Long Do I Have To Wait for Retainer?

Im having my retainer fitting next week and was just wondering how long after the fitting do i need to wait until i get my retainer? it is probably going to be the clear plastic one which resembles invisiline.

I got my clear retainer (Essix) the same day I had the impressions for it along with my whitening trays. Some people don't always get them the same day though.

My ortho made my essix retainer while I waited (about 15 mins)
I thought that was nifty!

It really depends on the ortho's practice and procedures. They may be made in-house as noted in the other replies (same day service), or sent out to be manufactured, which is usually one week at the most. Sometimes orthos have an arrangement with a local (same buidling, for example) lab which can produce them in 1 or 2 days.
