Speaking with a semi-permanent retainer! Sluurr

Hey people. I got a retainer that was cemented to my teeth and i was told that i would have it on from 6 months. Can anyone with experience with this treatment tell me how long it takes to get your own voice back? So far I had it for a week and its getting a little bit better, but i still sound like... like.. Like not myself. Please help me, i need to get reassured when im expected to have my full voice back.

What kind of retainer is it? Can you describe it?
I thought all retainers that were cemented onto teeth were just a thin wire.. which doesn't affect speech at all.
I'd be interested to know what type you have.
