Retainers and Sinus Pain

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Retainers and Sinus Pain

#1 Post by empire11 »

Hey everyone,

I've been naked for about 3 weeks now and have had constant sinus pain pretty much since I got the retainer and had to go on antibiotics last week. The pain just won't go away. I'm prone to sinus probs to start with but the pressure from the retainer on the roof of my mouth just seems to aggravate it. Anyone else with similar problems or know of any correlation?

Empire,
I had a similar problem, well at least I thought it was a similar problem. I got my braces off in January, like the 23rd. Every time I put my retainer in, I felt a constant pressure, like sinus pressure that I never felt with my braces. It was mostly when I laid down and I felt it in my jaw, right ear, and the right side of my face, mostly up by my nose. Well come to find out, I had a tooth in which the root was dying. I needed a root canal. I had the sinus headaches and pressure for about 5 months before I even realized that it was my tooth. Since I've had the root canal, I have had no other sinus type problems. I can wear my retainer comfortably even when I'm laying down. That's just been my experience, not to scare you or anything, but I just wanted to share.
