Ladies: Essix Retainers & Lipstick/Gloss

#1 Post by serendipity »

Ladies,

Anyone find that your lipstick or gloss gets over your essix top retainer? It's really starting to bug me...even if I wipe it off it's left feeling yuck. Anyone experiencing this?

Apart from going without it (lipstick that is  ) is there anyway you can overcome this?

That has happened to me as well.
The residue that is left on the retainer usually goes away with just my saliva!

I asked the same question about clear brackets, and the advice I got was colorstay lipstick and making sure you blot or get the lipstick/ lipgloss off near the inside of your lips (finger in your mouth after you apply lipstick, make an 'o' shape and take your finger out, removing excess lipstick/ gloss, sounds gross but works). This seems to be working for me with the brackets, I am planning to use the same approach when I finally can comment in this forum when the braces are off! Good luck.

I just got an Essix retainer yesterday and I am also having issues with Lipstick. I do use Colorstay but some times it flakes, I am finding the flakes all over my retainer! Some of them I can gentle scratch off with my nail and some do not rub off at all. Would some kind of effervescing type cleaner get those stubborn lipstick/colorstay flakes off? Anyone else have problems with the colorstay lipstick flaking? Or is it just me?

When I was like nine, I had an expander for six months, and then I got essix retainers. Because I had danced a lot, I would wear lipstick and makeup. My tip is to put the retainer in first, and then put the lipstick/gloss on SUPER carefully. Then blot. Sadly, I'm braced now.
