relapse with permanent retainer?

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

relapse with permanent retainer?

#1 Post by sportsgrl97 »

no.. im not having a relapse with my incisors if that is what u are thinking.... thank god :D but i was wondering if it was possible to have a relapse with your back teeth on the bottom due to not having anything holding the teeth in place??? is it possible for them to relapse to the point where the bite is messed up and you need braces again?

thanks

Hi Sportsgrl. I only have a permanent wire on my bottom teeth too. My orthodontist only has me wearing my upper Hawley for 10 hours a day, mostly over night. That way, the bottoms will mesh with the uppers during the day while eating, etc. He said they should be fine. I don't know if they could rotate or tip, though. Mine didn't have far to move, so my situation could be different. (I also have a bite positioner that I wore daily for an hour a day - after the intial 24/7 of three days). I still put it in a few times a week, but it doesn't really do much now that things have settled some.

Hope all holds true for you.
Had Damon 3 / Smart Clips for almost 2 years
Now in Hawley upper 10 hours/day, permanent lower retainers
