A question

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

A question

#1 Post by AtomicSkier »

I had my Hawleys for about 7 weeks...I got my braces off before I left for camp on July 1st.

But now, I am really hating these hawleys, because I have to keep track of them when I take them out to eat, or if I'm at the shore (beach), I have to leave them out for an extended period of time, and leave them somewhere safe...it just gets to annoying.

I have been wearing them all the time...my teeth are actually getting stronger, I forgot to put them in after about 7 hours, and they fit fine...

I was wondering if its okay to go from hawleys to permanent retainers...the ones with the small wire behind the teeth.

How much do they cost?

This will depend on what your ortho says. They could cost hardly anything to a lot so it's just what he/she says. sorry I wasn't that much help.

Some orthos won't use permanent retainers at all. Even on lowers.

Also, upper permanent retainers are not used often, even by orthos who use lower bonded retainers.

Call your ortho and ask if they even do lingual bonded retainers.

My lower bonded was included in my cost. There was a lot of work done to bond this sucker in my mouth. Can't have been cheep!

Good luck to you, and let us know what happens!

If your orthodontist perscribes it from a check up, then it wouldn't cost anything. You need to talk to them though, because every office is different.
