#1 Post by Harley Momma »

Does anyone have a lower retainer that is all covered in acrylic except for those two little hooks?

Very close, Meryaten, I'm very impressed you remembered! My lower hawley has clear acrylic over the front part of the wire.

Before I was debanded I remember seeing someone post that their upper hawley had the same deal and that they'd never seen anyone else's like that but I can't recall who it was.

Something like this, Harley Momma?

It's not that noticeable when being worn:

My bottom one looks the the upper posted. Why????? do they do that. I haven't seen my real ortho since I have been debanded on 7/20. I went back and saw one of his cronies, and wasn't happy. I ended up using a dremel to do away with some of my upper acrylic so that my mouth would close properly. I see my regular ortho next week and I will see if I have caused any problems doing that. I am not happy at all with my teeth

Harley Momma, you are not alone. Victory1 had uppers and lowers with the molded acrylic on the front. I was supposed to get this type of upper Hawley and my ortho called it a maxillary wrap Hawley (they ended up giving me something different).

Here is Victory1's photo:

I'm so sorry that you are not feeling happy with your teeth. I hope that you can work out a retainer solution that you feel satisfied with.
Uppers placed 2/8/06--Inspire ICE ceramics
Lower (stainless) placed 2/23/06
Treatment time: 17 months (estimated was 12-18 months)
Debonded: July 11th, 2007
Next appointment: June 2008 for retainer & nightguard check

lower retainer

#5 Post by Harley Momma »

I finally got a permanent retainer on the bottom. I still don't know why I had all of that acrylic on my lower retainer, but I sure am glad I have a permanent one. It isn't even a little wire. It is like little triangles on the back of each tooth with a wire attached between them. Anyway, I love the new permanent retainer. It only took about a week to get use to it being there. I want one on top, but the ortho thinks it would interfere with my bite. I guess I should ask more questions instead of just trusting my ortho's opinion 100%, but he has not only done my teeth but he has done all 3 of my kids and he has done a great job so far.
