The Retainers Have Arrived. :)

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

The Retainers Have Arrived. :)

#1 Post by strugglebuggy »

I went to pick up my retainers this morning and I have to say that I was pretty surprised when I got them. Most of the photos I've seen here have the retainers that have some sort of restraint on the molars. Mine don't have that. They also have a clear acrylic shell over the wires and a bite plane built in. There is some sort of spring in the acrylic palate, too. I know he is doing some tweaking, so I am assuming that is why mine looks different. My bottoms are clear and they are rather loose fitting. The ortho wasn't concerned about that. He just said that my bottom teeth are straight and thus the looser fit.

Anyway, I got the purple sparkles with a picture of a cat curled up and I love it. :) Karen, do you see that??? lol.

I have a terrible lisp right now, especially because the bite plane is in my way. I feel kinda embarrased when I talk right now. Please tell me that gets better!!!!!!

thanks, Karen! I knew you'd like it. :) I think the purple acrylic and the orange cat go well together. 8) Now I just have to learn how to talk again. <sigh>

Contrats Stuggle! Great looking purple...cant decide what color I want tho I'm leaning towards hot pink.

No advice as I'm a step behind you...I'll get my lower bonded retainer on Thursday but probably 6 more weeks for my uppers *sigh* BUT I'm thinking Brady Bunch...remember Cindy's lisp? She sells sea shells at the sea shore...

Good luck and keep us posted on progress!

Hi Alexa! :)

Thanks. I like them too. I'm not crazy about having the clear plastic over the wires though. I was looking forward to having nearly naked teeth and now they are hiding behind clear acrylic. :? Not sure what is going to happen to me- I heard the doc and tech talking about taking another set of impressions in November for a new set of essix retainers to wear during the day. God, I hope so. I am an apprentice optician and I feel like I can't talk to patients without them wondering what the heck is wrong with me...lol. I just tell them about the retainers and they get this look as if to say "Ohhhhhhh! THAT'S what it is..." LOL.
