Back teeth meeting too early

I've only had my Hawley a few days but whenever I take it out for cleaning etc. I notice my very back teeth (that are not retained) meet much sooner than before and so the rest of my teeth except the very front teeth no longer meet.

Has anybody else experienced this?

This is something your regular dentist can address, he can file a little here and there so that no area hits before all the others. He will have you bite on some articulating paper that stains your teeth to see the high spots. Its amazing how just alittle sanding down can make a huge difference.

It's just strange that my bite was fine when I got the braces off, it's the retainer that seems to have done this.

I'm not sure I should get anything done with my regular dentist in case more changes occur because these are in for the next six months.

Usually what happens after your braces come off is "settling". I know that my bite was different after several months and now its been 1.5 years post braces. Teeth that don't touch in the back usually will come together in time, its like when you are missing a bottom molar for a long time, the opposing upper tooth will erupt lower because it doesn't have anything to hit against.

"Settling" is what may be occurring in your case, but its best to ask your ortho what he suggests.

Yeah, that's what I think is happening. My back teeth don't have anything to hit against when my retainer is in, so they may be growing closer together.
