retainers: how many kinds; what do they look like; etc

I can't imagin I'm getting close to the debanding day too! After about a year and half with braces.
My ortho and I discussed about retains briefly during last visits. She said I will get a permanent on my top front teeth because one of them was rotated prior to braces and rotation is the easiest to go back. She said then I can have a invisalign style retain on top of that, then one for the bottom. But she hinted that I may choose.
My question is since I don't have no idea about these different retainers. I'd like to have more information before finalizing it. I did some research but couldn't really find these I thought of as the basic information. Specifically I'm looking for answers to the following questions:
1. How many kinds of retainers are there?
2. What do they look like? (where can I find pictures)
3. What's the difference among these retainers. Why would one choose one from the other.
4. What's the other impact of using these different retainers. Such as, convenience, easy to pop on/out, easy to clean, affect on the look, speaking, gum, adjustable, etc.
