After braces, i want to get my teeth shaped so that they are appropriately uniform in size and length, etc.

What procedures did you have done or what procedures are you thinking of doing?

Based on the information I've read, bonding seems like an appropriate procedure but what's your take?

Okay, that makes sense to not do bonding or veneers. What is your opinion about... instead of adding to the teeth, taking away similar to what's done for interproximal reduction.

After my braces come off I am getting a gold crown removed and replaced with a white one or maybe filled (can't quite remember what ortho said they do to it) and I am also gettig teeth whitening. I just can't wait till I have perfect teeth!

My Ortho mentioned that I may need a tooth filed down but I will know for sure on Friday when I go in to get this craziness started. So nervous and excited!

That was me with the tooth shaping Merytaten. It made all the difference in the world. I was practically in tears that day and my ortho said....Hey hang in there a second. After about 2 minutes of work, I walked outta there with the biggest smile on my face LOL. See if I can get some pics on here

The ortho did this right before I had impressions for my refinement series. I was sooo relieved!

I'm going to wait and see what my results are like before deciding on a) cleaning and bleaching b) a bit of filing or c) veneers on the front 4 upper incisors.

I already have a white filling material on the face of 2 of the incisors so veneers would not be destruction of perfect teeth (they grew in damaged). The filling material has held well for 15 years, but is a bit discoloured now and doesn't take bleach as well as the natural teeth. I'm still a bit hesitant to go for veneers though.... I still have a pretty nice smile, so not sure I want to get rid of healthy enamel!

There is also a tiny chip out of the corner of that central incisor which filing might improve... (some enamel loss I'm willing to consider! :D )

Wouldn't making them a uniform size and length make them look rather false? Central incisors should be larger, and I'm sure I've read that slightly longer canines help "frame" the incisors? :?:

Cosmetic dentistry is about more than just repairing damage done to your teeth through time, lifestyle, or diet - it's about making your smile a reflection of what you feel inside. Whether you're looking for restorative cosmetic dental work or an elective procedure to gain more confidence in your smile, the result can be a boost to your physical and emotional health.

I think I am confused? If you have any material added to the teeth, is it NOT permanent?
I have not consulted with a cosmetic dentist yet, but I am looking into tooth reshaping options. I believe a few of my teeth will need to be filed down, but I have several that were ground down so badly before I got braces. The enamel was damaged on those teeth, so I will need rebuilding and resurfacing to be done. Would that be bonding or veneers or something else? Since I am not doing this purely for cosmetic reasons, however it will be a bonus, I really want to have my teeth as healthy as possible and fixing the enamel damage is primary, so would this still be considered cosmetic?

I was told by my orthodontist he'd do a little bit of shaping of my lowers, but then last week he did my retainer impressions and the braces come off this Thursday. I can't see him reshaping after making the retainer for how my teeth are now...

Any input?

Well, in my case it was such a tiny bit of shaping that I doubt if it would have made any difference if he had waited until after the retainer impressions. It's truly amazing how little they take to make such a big difference. What kind of retainers are you getting?

I know after my braces come off that I will need my back teeth to be capped due to the damage the crossbite caused on my teeth. Not sure if this would be "considered cosmetic" but it is a procedure that will be done after the braces are off.
