Debracing and Retainer Question

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Debracing and Retainer Question

#1 Post by jennandtonic »

My debracing date is getting a lot closer (don't have an exact day yet, but the ortho is quite optimistic), and as it gets closer I'm thinking about the process a lot. I would like some feedback on a worry of mine.

My ortho tends to do the fitting for the retainer on the day she takes the braces off...so I will be without a retainer for- I presume- a couple of days at least. Did any of you have to wait in between your debracing day and getting your retainer? If so, did any of your teeth move at all?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I got mine off last Wednesday and got my retainer on Thursday. Nothing moved at all. Good luck!

I got my top braces off this morning. As soon as they were off, they did the mold for that arch. I go back this afternoon to pick up the top retainer and removal of the bottom braces. The bottom arch will be retained by a permanent retainer.

I waited a week for retainers. Teeth moved a little in that time, but nothing the retainers didn't sort out once I started wearing them.
