Teeth Shifting? [[PICS]]

#1 Post by betharoo »

I had braces for about 2 1/2 years. I got them off about a year ago and I got a retainer that I wear all the time. One of my teeth started to shift so he cut out a piece of my retainer to give it room to move back. That made my teeth hurt all over again. Well now I have 2 teeth moving so I had to go back to the dentist again this morning, He bent my retainer again hoping to move my teeth, and also told me that he thinks he might have taken my braces off a little too soon. He took more impressions again today and told me I'm getting a new appliance in a few weeks, I'm thinking a new retainer to move my teeth again. If this doesn't work I don't know whats going to happen, hopefully not braces again....

Can somebody explain to me what a positioner is and what it looks like?
I'm curious.

Thanks :)

Is it just one big piece that goes over the top and bottom teeth?
because, he only took an impression of my top teeth this time.

Yes, it is an all in one appliance. If you've had impressions only for one arch, it's unlikely you'll be getting one of these.

I found out friday, I get to get braces again. He said a retainer just wouldnt fix it. He said the braces just wern't left on long enough to let my teeth set.

so i get to do 6-8 more months in braces.

Aww, no fair. You've been good, too!

Ah well, it could be worse. My Dad likes to scare people with his braces experience back in the day: he had his on for 12 years total. Eight years, and then four.

WOW, so glad it's no longer the '60's!
