impressions before or after debanding

went for a check-up today and the ortho said my braces should be able to come off in the next two visits. however, he said the next visit i'd get impressions and then the visit after that debanding. are the impressions generally done before or after debanding?

I had impressions before AND after the braces came off. They made me a Hawley retainer with the before impressions to wear immediately after i got debraced. Then my ortho took more impressions after the debracing to get me Essix retainers made.

i to had impressions done before and after debracing. had impressions done before for my bonded retainers and after for my upper essix retainer

I would imagine that getting moulds made with brackets on would be a very messy process?

it can be but if its done right its not so bad. When I had impressions with braces on they put like this wax stuff over the bracets so that it was easier to get the mould off once it was set enough. I also got my wires taken off as well minus the time I had it done at my oral surgeon office.

I had an upper impression made before my braces came off. My upper hawley was waiting for me on my debanding and I have a lower bonded retainer.
