I just got debraced this afternoon after being braced for 28months. I'll be getting Hawley retainers on Mon, 18th. After lunch, I see that the gap between the front two teeth is noticeable. It was fine with braces. I freaked out and called the ortho and have an appt t o have him check it out tomm. I wanted to find out if anyone had similar experience. :(

I'm afraid that they'll brace me back again!? Am I paranoid for no reason?
Please help !!! :Questions:

Hi Jun08,

I've heard Hawleys can be adjusted to actually move teeth, so it's possible that your ortho will be able to use your retainer to correct the gap. One of my friends, whose treatment time went way over the original estimate and was sick of wearing braces, requested to have her braces removed before her treatment was technically complete. Since she was close to the finish line, her ortho was able to continue to make tweaks using her Hawley.

Hope it works out for you :)

"Debraced-now what?" Wear your retainers! :D

I think you are being paranoid. Your teeth were used to being held together by wires and brackets, it is only normal for them to move a bit. Once you get your retainers, things will settle down.

Congratulations and enjoy your new smile!
