POSITIONER - What in the world is this exactly?

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Wondering if anyone can share their experiences and/or input about this type of appliance.

I had one. It's like a mouth-guard. Really bulky. You can't eat or talk with it in. The impression for the positioner is taken while braces are still on your teeth. The molds are sent to a lab and the lab makes the positioner into your perfect bite. The positioner is supposed to settle your teeth, make final adjustments and correct any final bite issues. It's not like a retainer where you just pop it in and that it, you need to actively bite into it for it to work. I was told to wear mine as much as possible for 2 weeks before getting my retainer.

I'm glad to see that someone else has this thing. I was beginning to think my ortho was the only one in the world who uses it.
