hi i just got my upper retainers today. it was given by other dentist as my ortho wasnt around.
i was supposed to get them last week, but they were too short for me.
the dentist fit in for me and her hands were kinda shaky.
after which she asked if its hurting my gums anywhere and i said no..
i think she realised my bite wasnt right so she kept asking me to put the retainer back on and out..

she didnt show me a mirror so i couldnt see my retainer

on my way home, the retainer was hurting my teeth!!
then when i looked at the mirror, the retainer isnt covering some of my teeth
and the retainer gumline is below my actual gumline(2 of them)
the edge of my retainer wasnt covering some of gums. it was slightly lower than the gumline.

anyway, i could have taken out my braces 6 months ago. but due to some bite problems i felt,
it delayed for 6 months. however my dentist felt that my bite is perfectly good.

so since people say u should wear retainers for 6 months (min)
is it possible my teeth wouldnt move much in 3 weeks? cos' i have straight teeth and good bite in braces for 6 months already.

cos my upper retainers have been delayed for 2 weeks already and i might have to make another one...

i went to the ortho today.. and she said my upper retainer fits well.
she said it hurts because it is trying to shift my teeth back to its original position.

however i didnt have a chance to ask her about the gumline problem.
i cant be sure that my teeth is moving to its original position cos' my teeth's already straight.
i think its the retainer gumline pressing against my teeth..

anyone have any idea?

here's the picture

your retainer looks perfect to me.
my retainer does not cover my canines all the way to the gum either, and it feels just fine.
As long as your teeth are not moving and the soreness goes away in a week or so, I don't think you have a problem.

When I first got mine, it was really painful because my teeth had shifted the few days between debonding and getting my retainer.
Mine does fit different than yours though... there's no space between the bottom of my teeth and the retainer, and the gumline measures up.
