Essix question

Hey all - just woke up from my first night post-braces. I took my essix retainers out this morning and my bite didn't feel as closed. It felt like I had been biting down on 2mm of plastic all night.

Has anyone else noticed this? Could it be bad for the teeth to get pushed gently back into the gums whenever you bite down in the essix?

First, it takes a few months (sometimes up to a year) for teeth to fully "settle" after deband.
Second, it's actually quite common for your bite to feel strange right upon taking your retainer out of your mouth. After a few hours, it should feel normal again. (My ortho says this is the case with her teeth.)

Thanks! I think I'm getting used to them now.

I'm getting an upper retainer on monday, just to wear to bed at night. I dont know what kind. Is the Essix one common, whats it like?? Wonder if I'll get that one. And why do some of us need a removable one AND permanent ones?! Would have thought the bonded ones would be enough! Not that mine have bothered me, think I heard the ortho talking to the assistant about how the type they used are nice and thin and yeah mine feels all good. :)
