I'm having my brace removed this week and I could do with some composite bonding to build up my two front teeth as they've worn unevenly and it wasn't visible until they straightened.
Has anybody had any experience and able to tell me the pros and cons?
When i was younger I had a gap in my front teeth...i hated it!!
At this point i had no intention of having a brace so my dentist built it up using composite... you wouldnt be able to tell it wasnt my real teeth, i have had no problems with it, every 2-3 years or so it does chip slightly but the dentist just repairs it for me, as its only a small area they've never charged me for it either!
The downside is that when it chips it can be quite sharp and as mine was at the front it was noticeable and i used to catch my tongue on it...
Ooooh and flossing around it is a nightmare as the floss always snags on the edge at my gum
Thanks. Good to hear from someone with experience. My orthodontist said to go to my dentist but my dentist was the one who said he wouldn't bother with braces to begin with so I might go to a private cosmetic dentistry clinic (in the UK, are you?).
How does the colour match up to your natural tooth colour?
Well, I have an overbite and an overjet, my dentist kept saying about breaking my jaw and resetting it and not about a brace but the overbite doesn't bother me, I just want my teeth straight so the overjet correcting, in the end I went through a private cosmetic dentist that specialises in cosmetic braces etc.
The colour matches perfectly, they match it to the shade of your teeth realy well.
Since havin my brace on wednesday, they have put 2 composites on my front teeth to hold the brace in the correct place and them ones are virtually unnoticeable
I am currently in braces and I've had composite bonding on my front tooth (it chipped when I was young) for last 8 years. I suggest whitening all your teeth and then getting that shade of composite bonding. Because once you have the bonding, the color will not change and (in my experience) as time passes, it does very, very, slightly stains--hardly noticeable to anyone except you. So, if your composite bonding is a nice egg-white shade, then you can keep whitening your other non-bonded teeth since, unfortunately, composite bonding doesn't whiten with the whitening products. I'll have to add an extra cost of getting a new composite bonding on my front tooth after i whiten all my teeth after being de-braced. :/
Yes I had it done on two teeth. They turned out great. The only downside is that the composite material may begin to deteriorate after about 5 to 7 years and you may need to get it re-done again.
I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!
After braces, I'm thinking of having my bonding replaced with veneer and since it's only one tooth, it's fine. But I have heard veneers are quite expensive. Does anyone know the average range of the cost? I thought I'll only incur costs from braces treatment-but there's so many other additional costs attached--it's depressing.

Mine cost me close to $300 or a little over it for my 1 front tooth--this was back in 2007. It didn't get covered by my insurance because it is considered cosmetic.
