Essix retainer molds

#1 Post by GiverSSJ »

Are Essix retainers always done after debracing while Hawleys are done before the debracing?

No, it is either/or for both. It depends on your doctor's preference and how they go about finishing treatment. There is no right or wrong way to go about it.

Okay. Thank you for your reply. The reason why I am asking is because I got molds on Thursday for retainers with the braces still on, and she originally wanted to give me Hawley retainers. However, I had those as a teenager to correct some crowding in the front teeth and had problems with them so I called her up and told her I wanted both Essix on top and bottom and the permanent retainers on top and bottom. Which one would I be getting first most likely?

My permanent retainers were applied just prior to the braces being removed. Molds were then taken for the Essix/Hawley retainers. I was able to get the Essix retainer later that same day since my ortho makes them in the office. I picked up my Hawley about a week later.

How long does it take permament retainers to be made?
