I had my braces removed on Tuesday and upper/lower permanent retainers bonded to 6 teeth (both upper and lower jaw) before the removal. Impressions for Hawleys were then taken. My ortho told me I'll have to wait a week before I can collect my Hawleys which makes the collection date next Tuesday. I noticed a gap has re-opened between two teeth in front on my upper jaw. Does anyone here have similar experience or know if the Hawleys will close this gap? Are gaps supposed to reopen since I have permanent retainers? I've tried checking the permanent retainers and the wire seems to still be bonded quite well. My ortho won't see me until next Tuesday. Should I be worried?

yes, i heard Hawley can close a gap but you have already bonded retainer. I guess your dentist need to detach it first??

Thanks for the reply illay. Seems like my two front teeth are starting to move forward. Received my Hawleys yesterday and she had to make a few adjustments to get them to fit. So i'm gonna have to wear them 24/7 for a month until the gap closes. Fingers crossed!

you're welcome . It seems your teeth are very strong..although there's a wire they keep want to move 0_0.

thanks for this post! I need to ask my ortho about this next time, I have a small gap in my top teeth that didn't close in time due to elastics.. hoping that it can be closed with the Hawleys.

Most welcomed drgnchsr36! I had to have my Hawleys readjusted cause they became really really loose. Like they would fall out even if i wipe my face -_- My ortho is confident that they will be able to close the gaps once they have been readjusted though. Shall keep you guys updated!

Did you have to get new retainers?

I can answer this one.. and it's a yes! I had a small gap and the retainer was adjusted and the gap is gone now!
