Newly debraced with fixed retainer

I have just finished upper arch treatment for a midline diastema and have had an upper bonded retainer fitted.
I'm struggling to adapt to it at the moment, it's been 2 days and my tongue just can't seem to leave it alone.
I'm scared of my horrible teeth reoccurring but am worried how long I will take to adjust to this new thing in my mouth.
I also used to suffer from bruxism and am scared of waking and finding it's gone and I've lost it. I will be also getting an Essix at some point next week too as a back up or maybe a double up, but worry about dislodging the fixed retainer whilst fitting and removing the Essix retainer.
Please let me know if you can relate.
