Upper bonded retainer and oral sex...

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Upper bonded retainer and oral sex...

#1 Post by Bikerchick85 »

I was given the option by my Ortho today to get a bonded upper retainer because my bite allows for one. My question is.. Do any of you lovely ladies have one and does it interfere with oral sex??
I'm not dead set on having one but if I got one, I'd like to still be able to please my man without ripping him to shreds!
Any male or female input would be greatly appreciated! :yikes: hehehe

No need to worry. There is nothing sharp. More importantly, they do keep your teeth in place.

Thank you, plugnickel! :) I'm still tossing the idea of getting one back and forth. I'm leaning more towards not getting the upper one. I want to be able to bite into things without having to be cautious. LOL

I can't believe this thread has been viewed 36 times and no one commented.

Having the upper fixed retainer is not like having braces. You'll hardly ever be aware of it, and you don't have to worry about biting into anything. That said, you don't want to crack walnut shells with them.

You do realize that you could have the fixed installed and then removed if you can't live with it. Meanwhile, you've worked so hard to get your teeth in place, why chance a relapse.

The only drawback I find is that it takes a little more effort to floss.

I've had a fixed wire on my top teeth for over two years - it's very smooth (feels no different to the back of a normal tooth) and you don't even remember it's there most of the time. The only drawback is you can't floss, but you can still use interdental brushes to keep the gumline clean.
