Can't get used to Essix retainers - Help!

My 3rd day post braces. No problems overnight with top & bottom Essix but trying to keep them both on during the day is killing me. The bottom one keeps making me gag and feel like I will throw up. I can suffer through it but when I add the top one on, it's awful. I've been alternating them every couple of hours during the day to try to get used to it. Any helpful hints on getting through this initial time with the retainers? I'm hoping it's like the braces at first and you just find ways to get used to it but I'm really struggling right now.

I have Essix but only on the top. Sorry you are having problems.

Why do you wear them during the day? Mine are nighttime only. Ask your ortho if wearing them at night only would work...

Once my braces were removed I had to wear them 24/7 and I think the original poster just had hers removed too.
