Proof that wearing retainers works!

I met up with a friend earlier in the week who I had not seen for many years. Naturally the topic of my braces came up (you can hardly miss them) and my friend, who has really nice straight teeth told me that she still wears the retainer she got when she finished braces as a teenager. That was over 20 years ago! Message is clear, wear your retainers!!

Just wondering, do you know what kind of retainers she has?

I'd guess Hawley's because I'm not sure if the invisalign style were available yet but I could be wrong.

Thats going to be me! I am allowed to only wear my retainer at night now but I still wear it off and on throughout the day.

One of my friends is the same way, he's worn his retainer as instructed and his teeth are perfect. Some of my other friends didn't and some of their teeth have since relapsed a bit. My one friends bottom teeth are now exactly like how they were before she had braces.
I know I'm going to wear my retainer and bite splint religiously. Lol. I can't see the point of spending thousands and it all going to waste.

Also my sister had braces 20 years ago and she had an Essix retainer, so they were around back then.

I'm now officially 1 year post braces. I wear Essix at night and they have done me well so far.

I'm different than most in that my retainers only cover my front 8. Even with that, my molars still have proper bite.

My dentist told me that I'd have to wear my retainers for life is that normal?

From what she described, it sounded like a Hawley retainer

Yep, if you want straight teeth forever, you've got to wear retainers forever.

Thanks Im getting hawleys next week when my braces come off. Im just really nervous about my teeth shifting back, sounds like I should be fine, as long as I wear them.
