Hello. I'm 43 yrs old (female) and new to braces as of 3 months ago. I just got my bottom braces 3 days ago. So far, there is a huge difference in my top teeth which I never expected in such a short time considering the fact that I have very overcrowded teeth. The tops are nearly all lined up! I'm not so sure the bottom will progress as much as the tops but only time will tell. So far, I'm happy with the progress

How have the first few days been in braces?

The first 5 days for me were really sore but nothing I couldn't handle. My front teeth have been sore on and off regularly for the past 3 months with braces. A lot has to do with the fact that I have a lot of overcrowding and a lot of movement. I can't believe how much they've moved in a short time. My upper teeth are almost aligned. My bottom so far seem to not be nearly as sore which I'm surprised. They're more overcrowded than the top. The ortho said they'd probably hurt more than the top. I'm figuring they're not moving as fast which is ok. I'm in no rush for progress. Didn't take long to get used to having them. The constant cleaning is a chore but if I'm paying a lot for this, I'm not taking the chance of my teeth going bad. The weirdest thing I wanted to do the first week of getting both the top and the bottom was constantly opening my mouth wide to relieve some of the tension. It drove me so crazy I wanted to rip the braces out. lol

I'm new as well. I've just gotten the courage, at 55, to begin my journey of a straight healthy smile. I also have overcrowding with my bottom being the worst.

Welcome and congrats on getting braces! It is awesome seeing the quick movement.

It's been a month and a half since I've had the bottom braces on. Holy moly are they moving! Next adjustment the ortho has to take a bracket off the front top to reposition it as the tooth was set far back when it was initially placed on. When I say I've had crooked teeth I mean crooked teeth. lol My front bottoms looked like a zig zag. Now, they're already closer to being lined up.
