Cleaning Clear Retainers

#1 Post by EllenR »

Hello everybody. I recently got my braces off on Sat, and my ortho made me clear retainers and he showed me how to clean them. He told me to soak them in denture tablets and brush them gently with a toothbrush after. The reason he said denture and not retainers tablets is because, as far I know, we don't have retainers tablets sold where I live. I tried it the first time today and noticed the water in the cup was blue. My question is: would that give my retainers bluish color or turn them yellow? and what about white vinegar and water soak? is it safe? Also what about a non-alcoholic mouth wash soak? Thank you :)

I use denture tablets myself but with the green color and so far, I haven't noticed any discoloration.

I also use denture tabs with a blue color. Zero issues two months in. Though my ortho said not to brush the clear as it will scratch them and make them cloudy. He suggested mild liquid hand soap.

Nope, it doesn't give any discoloration and they work great! Made my retainers so much cleaner, but even with that and cleaning with my toothbrush there is some residue that won't escape my retainers. That's after several months though. Congratulations on getting your braces off!
