Comfort covers for braces

#1 Post by MsViola »

Has anyone tried the comfort covers for braces now available at DentaKit.com?

I just got mine in the mail today. I think they may be workable once I get used to them. It will take some time to get them cut down to where they feel right. I liked the way they made my brackets feel smooth. However, I must admit, I felt like "Bucky the Beaver" with the top ones on. I wearing both pairs at the same time was more than a mouthful :D

I tried to wear the bottom one while lecturing and had to step out the room and remove them. It was hard to say some words clearly. Hopefully it will get better with time.

One thing that I don't like is the fact that moisture (saliva) gets underneath them, which is kind of gross!! I kept wanting to suck the moisture out :yuck: I can tell me and retainers may have a problem.

I ordered some that are due to come in sometime this week, but now I am noticing that I don't need wax at all...so hmm...

Maybe when I get the bottoms in, I might need them then...

I am definitely interested in what you are saying. I am trying to find something that I can wear while I sleep. I don't think such a creature exists. I have swollen spots where each bracket is digging into my cheeks every night.

Does it work?

I am interested in this product too... wondering if anyone has used them and to what result. I only need wax occasionally now in the very back, but when I wake up in the morning my cheeks have bruises/dents. I think this is from the hooks on my bands digging in and pinching them while I sleep. Anyone else experience this? ~ Hedybleu

Thanks KK!! As usual your advice is right on the money. If I had thought about it I am drinking a lot more water during the day to stay hydrated, so it would only make since that I would need more fluids at night too. :D

Thanks again!!

I tried the comfort covers for ceramic brackets, but because I have a few metals in the back, the covers didn't fit correctly (kept slipping off the metal brackets). They're a good idea, but just not right for my situation. :?

Fortunately, I have only had a small issue with rubbing. When I was first braced, it was my lowers that dug into my bottom lip a bit. Now they're fine and only on occasion do I need wax for my back left bracket (a metal one with a hook) that keep digging into my cheek when I talk alot or smile too big.

My biggest problem lately has been when I have been talking at work (I'm in Human resources & talk alot to people, especially when conducting interviews), my elastics have broken, snapped and popped me in the lip. That really smarts (not to mention I feel like an idiot), but still overall, not a big deal. :jokerlaugh:

You might want to try the other ones that clip onto the archwire. I love mine, they come in handy for those days my mouth just feels the edges on every single bracket. It's called Lip Protector for braces. I use mine when I sleep too, well not all the time but occassionaly when my braces really bug me.
Upper and lower 1st premolars extracted
Uppers braced 4/6/07 & Lowers braced 4/20/07
ceramic brackets and rectangular arch wires

I've been grinding my teeth while sleeping and waking with sore molars. :( Sometimes it hurts so much it wakes me several times a night. Does anyone know if Comfort Covers might help with this? Do they cover the tops of the molars or just the front of the teeth? Any advise would be appreciated. I really need a good nights sleep!

Thanks Meryaten! I did call my ortho and he was able to see me that day. After taking a look in at my teeth and telling me what good hygiene I have :D (Some of it comes from the tips on this site) he gave me a thera bite, its a little horseshoe shaped piece of rubber, to wear while sleeping and the grinding is still going on but it no longer hurts. He also told me cut out as much salt and suger from my diet as this can cause you to grind your teeth.
