Waterpik Ultra Dental Water Jet

#1 Post by Lori »

I just bought this yesterday and I absolutely love it! After reading the threads regarding this product, I knew exactly how to use it and it works great.

I have very little counter space in my bathroom so I set up a table of equal height next to the counter and the water jet sits right on that along with all of my other braces supplies.

I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond. It was $60.00 and I had a 20% off coupon plus a $10.00 mail in rebate = $38.00 (So worth it!)

Lori, I bought mine right after I got my braces on too--I LOVE It!! we went away for 2 weeks and I didn't have it, my teeth never felt clean, and when we got back my gums were bleeding alittle, I think my teeth needed to get used to it again, after 2 days home all my teeth/gums were happy again!! I won't travel without it again!

Would you recommend one for work also? I have to have clean teeth!
Any recommendations for the workplace? I bought the Waterpic Ultra, it arrived today. Just worried about cleaning my teeth at work.
I am used to keeping my teeth clean all day and would be embarrassed to eat at work until I get this mastered!

Katie57 -

I would not recommend one for work unless you have access to a private bathroom. It can get messy at times even after you've mastered it.

I'm still trying to figure out how to clean my teeth at work. I've been brushing, flossing and using mouthwash after every meal, but I doubt that will last because it's really embarrassing brushing my teeth in the work bathroom.

I read a post where one girl just rinsed her mouth with water and used a toothpick. I don't eat a whole lot at work so I'll probably use this method and a little mouthwash every few hours to keep my mouth fresh. I'll brush as soon as I get home.

I love my WaterPik!! I got it a while ago when Costco was selling a pack with both the Ultra and the Portable one. I haven't used the portable one that much, the reservoir is a lot smaller, but I'll be travelling in the next couple of weeks and I'll take it with me. I also add some mouthwash to the water for some extra fresh feeling. It's really been a lifesaver now with the expander.

Lori, you could try using some proxy brushes, they're more discreet and can at least get rid of the food that might be more noticeable. But I bet that if you stick with brushing, everyone will get used to it pretty soon. Whenever I see someone brush their teeth I'm the one who feels bad for not doing the same. :-)

Great idea, Zeira! I'm going back to work for the first time with braces tomorrow and I will give this a try. Thanks!

Hey Lori, how did it go?

I had my first day at work yesterday and co-workers seemed genuinely interested and enthused about what I'm doing. (I'm 27, just got Damons for two years). Everyone was also keen to tell me about their time in braces as a teenager.

Today I was managing an event and coordinating about 20 people, which meant I wasn't able to hide my braces as much as I would have liked to! Still, no one seemed to care or notice.

A little late, but I wanted to share my WaterPik love, too!

Before I started using mine my gums bled almost every time I brushed, and my mouth just always felt a little yuck.

About two weeks after starting to use it the bleeding had totally stopped and my mom actually asked if I had been to the dentist recently for a cleaning because my teeth looked so good.

And yesterday I got an A+ for oral hygiene when I went on an ortho consult. Hurray!

Which one of the heads do people prefer? I can't quite tell what the differences are supposed to be between the different ones.

Mine only has one head but either squirts out a stream or jets bubbles. Got a bit frightened thought am I sand blasting my teeth? Can anyone tell me is it all right to use more than once or twice a day and can you do any damage to teeth using it? Thanks

I use the normal jet tip (plain clear narrowed plastic that squirts a steady stream - no brush or weird tip) on 'Lo' setting usually once a day either before and/or after i brush depending on what I've eaten.

I aim between the teeth, along the gums and into the brackets.

I just bought this online 4 seconds ago from Amazon. I hope it does the job, worried about receding gums! Is it still working out for everyone still? I hope it will help.

I was also wondering do you floss still even though the waterpik does the same job? What would you recommend? Thanks

Ok I finally got this and it's hard! How do ppl use it, I can't see the gumline, it splatters everywhere! It did get a bunch of stuff out and I guess I aimed at my gums and it bled. Any suggestions on how to get used to this? I read the manual (kind of) it just generally says to move it above the gum line. I can't see what I am doing though! Any suggestions or comments of videos would be helpful. Thanks
