Hey all,
I'm in my first month of braces and I need some ideas on what I can do about waking up in the middle of the night with my cheeks being stuck to my braces because my mouth is so dry. (I never had a problem with dry mouth before braces) Moving my mouth to peel my cheeks from my braces feels like I'm pulling on velcro and can be quite uncomfortable. My normal night cleaning routine is a good 2 minute brushing with Crest, flossing teeth and following it all up with ACT flouride mouthwash. I don't sleep with my mouth open so I can't figure out why my saliva production has slowed down while I'm sleeping.
Any suggestions???

I use Biotene toothbrush and mouthwash sometimes which seems to help with dry mouth.

landela,
I cant thank you enough for that information. After doing a google search for biotene products....

http://www.laclede.com/index.asp

Their website actually has a list of perscription medications that possibly cause drymouth. Turns out I am taking a med that my be causing my nocturnal dry mouth. I obviously can't stop the medication so the next time I am at my local Walgreens pharmacy I am going to pick up some toothpaste and mouthwash by Biotene.

Again, thank you. I'll let you know how it works out for me.

I always use crest nighttime mouthwash, that usually does the trick. But I find that the less I sleep the less often I wake up with my braces indented into my cheeks. This only happens to me usually on weekends when I sleep 10+ hours a night. Hope it helps a little. I've only had my braces on for 11 months, less than 7 to go! :D

Talk to your dentist. And also there are artificial saliva/ moisture/ dry mouth products to help people who have dry mouths. It will keep your mouth nice and moist without getting up all night to drink water! With that you have to keep good oral hygiene.
