Oral B Superfloss...horrible!

#1 Post by hypocrite opportunist »

I cheaped out on my usual Glide threader floss and bought the less expensive Oral B Superfloss. What a mistake! Maybe it's because my teeth are really crowded, but I could barely pull the floss through my teeth at all! And when I removed if from in-between my teeth I was scared I was going to rip my archwire out I had to pull so hard. UGH! I guess I need to teach myself how to use that little threader thing they gave me in the dental kit.

Yeah, that's a problem with SuperFloss (and also Thornton 3-in-1, which is essentially the same product). That spongy filament doesn't fit between tight teeth. For that, Glide Threader Floss is really the best product, followed by SturdyFloss (if you don't care whether you have that super slick Glide floss).

Yah i learned the hard way this floss was no good for me, but HEY i found in a pinch my old floss works fine if i just fold over a little piece to make it a little more sturdy i can fit it between the archwire.

It takes longer and seems to involve more... drool.

Actually, the thicker floss is great for people with large spaces between their teeth. But if you have tight spaces, Glide usually works best.

I've been using superfloss and having problems with the bracket doors opening when it pops against the wire.... hmmm, I'll try the glide instead.

I tried the super floss when i first got braces and it pulled one of my ligs half off. My hubby had to get it back on with tweezers.
If all you have is regular floss and threaders just tie the floss to the threader.

I definitely need to try the Glide. They gave me Superfloss when I got my braces on and it's fine from a couple of my front teeth at the top because they aren't so crowded but I literally CAN'T get it through some of my teeth on the bottom and in the back, so I'm not a huge fan of it right now.

I totally agree! I couldn't get on with my normal oral-b floss (no stiffened end or individual strips), so bought the SuperFloss as that is the only floss I know of in the UK with individual strands and a stiffened end... What a waste of money. I just tried it and it will not fit between my teeth at all, maybe 2, and even then it hurt like heck and I ended up smashing it into my gum line... then when trying to remove it it got stuck and I started to think I'd rip my archewire out LOL.

How are you getting on with the floss threader? I seriously need to buy some from somewhere. Man, the UK sucks big time for Orthodontic products! :x

my hygenist advised me to buy some floss threaders. and i ended up getting some online. they have helped with my flossing as they allow me to use then usual satin floss which can slide between my teeth as my teeth are very tight espech at the back. as times gone on its gotten easier to floss with a little bit of movement and getting into the routine of doing it. i havent tried superfloss again my hygenist said i would get it between some but not all of my teeth so id be better buying a floss threader. hope this helps!

I got some Crest Glide Deep clean at Costco and it his horrible. I use twice as much because it breaks so easily. I have pretty tight contacts though, especially on the bottom.

My first floss was the Superfloss and it made me dread flossing. I also got it stuck between my teeth and felt like I was going to rip half my mouth off trying to get it out. I have since switched to Crest Glide and flossing has been much easier.

Yes I bought ORAL B superfloss and it was horrible. I thought I was going to rip my bracket off when it got stuck. I even had to cut it out.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Crest glide floss, deep clean. I can use it pretty easily without even using a threader.

I am still looking everywhere to try the Crest threader floss. Does anyone know if its even sold in Canada??

I agree.. I love love Crest Glide Floss, deep clean as well. I can't believe I never tried it before now!! Just feels good to floss with it.

You could get it off of Amazon.com probably - I was going to buy some .. but figured it'd be cheaper for me to buy it locally..save me the shipping.

ditto on the oral b superfloss getting stuck and ripping. i had to use crest glide to floss the pieces of the superfloss out that had stuck between my back molars. you can get a box of 150 crest glide packets at dentakit.com which is what i did and boy and i glad i did. i got a small packet of oral b superfloss which i tossed after using the first (and last) piece.

I have no trouble threading it, but it does tend to get stuck and I have to tug to get it out.
Metal braces from March 2011 until October 2012. Hawley retainers since October 2012.
