Hey Smiley77, Mine did not stay pain for the whole week. Pain went away in 3 or 4 days for me. It depends on how tight your teeth. Mine was pretty tight. You will be fine. Trust me. It will probably going away in 3 or 4 days. Spacers suck! :x Hee hee. Take care. :D

Please be kind lol

I know they are horrid, but I thought that this is going to be the best way to see movement!

They are not horrid, smiley77. Who said that?

Those spacers do look rather mean. I'll bet you'll be glad to get rid of them. People say they are the worst thing about braces (I never had them), so if this is true for you, then things can only get better.

Lionfish, pleased to get rid of them does not even come close to the mouth party I will be having when they take those out!

I
said they are horrid! LOL I think they are so ghastly that I should be apologising for inflicting those photos on anyone.

After 15 years of hiding them, its so hard to post up pics for the sole purpose of showing people them! But they will only get better from here ;)

What's this apology business, smiley77? You have nothing to be ashamed of. If anyone doesn't want to look (which will be pretty rare on this board), then they will turn the other way. LOL!

Enjoy the de-spacer party. I'm sure you'll find braces more comfortable.

In your pictures I only see a great starting point for a beautiful smile. In fact instead of looking at your teeth now I immediately visioned what they will look like - and I only see beauty :)

Hey Smiley
I just wanted to let you know I think you are really brave and cool. I know things really suck right now, but you will be stronger and more confident for having gone through it all.
I had to get 4 extractions and they were horrible. Two of them broke in my skull and I was bleeding for hours and hours. Things are much better now and I know that all this will be worth it. :D

Hey Smiley!!

There is nothing wrong with your teeth...

That being said-- I am getting my braces in 6 days, and currently have spacers in, so we can be brace-buddies *high-five*!!

I am sorry you are experiencing soo much pain with the spacers. My spacers hurt the first day a little bit, but today they have been a breeze.. I did however do a couple salt water rinses in the days leading to the spacers, because I had read that they were horrid, and Mrs. KK suggests it..... She was right!!

Good luck with everything and keep us posted..

Hi Smiley 77

I've been reading your story and you are so brave. I can't pretend to know a lot about being braced as I haven't been braced yet (hope to be in Sept).

Just wanted to wish you every success with your journey.

Also I think that your teeth look strong and healthy which is the main thing isn't it.

Good luck :D

Hooray! It's done! Brand spanking new shiny smile! I can't believe how giant, sharp and bulky they are. It's SUCH an effort to get my lip over my teeth now lol

I chose baby blue ligs and I really like them. Wasn't up for being super brave for my first colours, and didn't want boring old silver.

They have been on for almost 8 hours now and they ache so much already! I took a couple of nurofen so I am just waiting for them to kick in now.

I can't stop looking in the mirror, I love my smile so much more already. The orthodontist told me today that I should expect a lot of movement in the first 3-4 months, and I will see drastic improvement in that time and I am very excited to hear that! To think, that around christmas time this year, I will have a nicer smile.

I must say, I am sick to death of mush though! LOL If I never eat scrambled eggs, mash spud, soup or youghurt again it will be too soon. I tried to eat a ham sandwich before and couldn't bite bits off! I even cut the crust off  Ahh well it's a small price to pay for the smile I have been dreaming of for half my life.

Will post pics up soon, I do have some but they are on the other computer.

Thanks so much for all your well wishes. Glad to have the company of people that really do understand.

Hi Smiley!

:jump: Happy Brace Day! :-)o

Wow, you got your braces on the same day as my first adjustment!

Soon, you won't even recognise your smile- things move so quickly, and before you know it you'll be back in the ortho's office getting things tweaked! :-*

Good luck with your new mushy diet- I found the one thing that keeps me going are milo tubs- nothing better than a soft tub of chocolate to cheer you up when you're sick of mashed potato. And before you know it you will be back on solids, I promise.

I'm glad you love your smile already- I love my smile (and my braces) too. I'm already smiling so much more than before.

Take care of yourself during these first few days, and keep us updated!

Well here I am two and a half days later! Bit raggedy around the edges but feeling pretty good!

Inside top lip is taking a bit of a beating and there is a bit on the bottom that is a bit sore, but nothing I can't handle. Wax was my new best friend this morning, I put loads on and looked like a wally, but the RELIEF!! ahhhhhh

Think it was just the break that my poor mouth needed.

Thanks so much for your well wishes you guys (^^^^ up there ^^^^) Thanks for thinking I am brave too! I felt like the worlds biggest sook at the time, but in hindsight it was a pretty rough time. I am alone with my two kids as my hubby works away, and just to add to the FUN, it was also the school holidays! LOL

But glad its all over that is for sure. Onwards and upwards I say!

Smiley77,

You are so lucky to have started! I'm still waiting for my case presentation appointment so I'm still at least a month away.. At least all of the molds and xrays are done. So did you get all metals or some ceramics? I've been reading that the ceramics are bulkier and have sharper edges than the metals. I don't have a choice for now anyway, as the ortho said he wanted to start with all metal and I could go to ceramics on the top front six later.

Anyway, best of luck on your bracing adventure and I look forward to reading your "pain free" updates!

Steve

Three days in and all is well.

Last night was terrible, I waxed myself up to the hilt and when I picked it off this morning my mouth seemed to be healed and tougher.

I think I am over the worst!

I have metal uppers and lowers - if ceramics are bulkier, I can't imagine how they would feel! LOL

I have been following your story Steve, and wish you the best of luck!
