hahaha well of course no one ever wants to get extractions but I do agree that it makes a narrower, smaller smile. And thanks for your concern about the springs but I've actually grown quite accustomed to them (not that I'll miss them when they're gone ) When you go to the ortho, ask them about the springs & get their opinion on the matter.

Good luck with the consult!

lizzoo ...Thanks again and I hope you and your teeth are doing well! I'll definitely be keeping track of your progress!
My teeth are doing well.. for now... I have my very 1st adjustment on April 3rd... I hope my upper laterals get wired in! And if they do, then they are getting their own special lig color to mark the occasion!

That's awesome! Great way to celebrate. Yes the 3rd will be special for the both of us. And, I guess I'll be looking forward to those springs as well for my laterals which are much like yours. Just a few more days....

Thanks, Rebelda! Yes those springs will give you lots to look forward to, such as:
  • Catching your toothbrush bristles :-}
  • Snagging your dental floss :o
  • Trapping food, especially bread :o
ha ha ha but in all seriousness they have improved my arch, I will post pics soon, just be gentle with the springs, they only look like indestructible machinery!

Very 1st Adjustment (Sorry No Pics Yet)

#36 Post by victor36 »

I had my very first adjustment today. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It felt like when I first got my braces on. Which means I should be expecting a lot of pain in the next few days.

My left lateral incisor got 'tied in' as well (the right one is still too far recessed to tie in yet... it better get moving because I refuse to have it extracted!) My ortho also did some "smoothing" of my lower front teeth (that's medical lingo for shaping and sanding my teeth)... Oh and I also changed my ligs from gold to dark blue. The laterals did not get their own special lig color yet; I'm waiting for the occasion when BOTH laterals get wired in.

I will post pics soon but right now I'm scrambling for the Advil and warm salt water rinse.

Check back often for updated pics!

KK Sorry you've had a painful adjustment Victor ... so far I've had 14 ... and not one of them has caused pain ... minor discomfort a few times, but not often! Good luck getting rid of any pain and then enjoying the movement!

Fantastic that your left lateral has been tied in ... wow that's fast ... and must mean you're making good progress. My wayward one, didn't look as far 'wayward' as your's, and yet it was much longer, before it was encouraged to make that journey to the archwire. The wonderful thing was ... as soon as it got started ... it liked the trip and didn't waste any time. Hope you get this same result!

Good luck and here's to your teeth doing great things before your next adjustment ... and here's to that adjustment being pain free!

Thanks for the encouragement, KK, It actually wasn't too bad... The discomfort only lasted a few days... Much less than when I first got my braces...

And don't worry about the gold ligs disappearing... I still have at least 8 more adjustments to go before the braces come off so they might make a comeback! (But as a bonus, the dark blue ligs make my teeth look really white!)

Hi Victor, I just had a read through your story and congratulations on getting tied in with one of your incisors, I have a similar problem with my incisor on my left hand side falls back a bit and sits behind my bottom teeth when I close my jaw, I've been in braces for 4 weeks now and feel as though all my moving has done until my next adjustment, i.e. everything feels quite stable now and I dont think I'll notice much more movement until I get that vital 1st adjustment.

Just a quick question, how did they go about getting that incisor hooked onto your wire? i.e. at the moment, I have no bracket on my incisor, my ortho placed a "button" on the back of my pushed in incisor and has got floss holding it onto the archwire (if you go check out my story you can understand what I'm talking about on my upper arch pics - it's a little hard to explain) and although I've seen a little bit of movement from that damn incisor, i dont think it's enough to warrant putting a bracket onto it and then hooking it all up, how did your's "pop out" so to speak so that they could fit it onto your archwire? god I hope I'm making sense! cause my orth said I can't have a bracket on there cause the bottom teeth will keep knocking it and I won't be able to get my back teeth together. Hopefully soon for me *fingers crossed*

Hope the rest of your journey is painfree and you get that other incisor hooked up soon

Hi Chantel! First of all congratulations on your decision to get braced!

If you look at these pics you'll see that my ortho put brackets on both of the recessed incisors, and in front of each non-wired bracket he threaded in a spring to essentially move my upper teeth forward & outward for a wider, broader arch. Slowly but surely that left lateral incisor became more & more exposed to the free world, to the point where the bracket was touching the springed archwire in front of it.
When it came time for my 1st adjustment, the assistant removed both archwires and replaced them with new ones, this time tying in the left lateral which was quick and relatively painless.
But, as you can see, the right lateral is more recessed and there was/is no room yet to tie it in. This guy is really stubborn so I don't know when he'll come out & play with the rest of the gang.
Hope this answers your question! :D

Hi Victor. I've been reading up on your story. Exciting that one of your incisors got wired on your first adjustment. It will be pulled in with the rest in no time now. Sending good vibes for your left to keep on moving and get wired in as well.

I was noticing that you said you recently moved... did you move into or out of OC? I currently live in OC so nice to have another OC res here :D I noticed your ortho is in North Hollywood  ... that's quite a trek up there. Hope you don't have to do it in rush hour.

I'll keep checking on your progress... here's to the left wayward one getting in the action soon

Hi, Princess!

Thanks for the good vibes for lots of movement

I used to live in Santa Clarita till last wednesday. I now live in the OC. So yeah my ortho is really far away now, so getting an adjustment (next one is May 31) will be an all-day adventure. Oh well. It's only temporary. I know I keep promising to post pics but I really will!

HAHAHA that was cute, Linda! :D

So I was talking to one of my co-workers and he stops me in mid-sentence to tell me how noticeably straighter my teeth are! How awesome is that! I'm just saving up for a digicam and I WILL post pics soon! Ohh yes. I will.
