Alrighty then - I'm braced!
I got in at about 9:15, signed my plan and went right back.
I hate to say it, but it was easy as pie (for now! LOL)
The mouth stretcher wasn't as uncomfortable as I had been fearing, and while the little tongue cage was annoying, I learned quick how to swallow with it in.
I miraculously didn't get any of the etch anywhere near where I could taste it, and the bracket placement went rather quickly.
I have 20 brackets right now, 10 on top, 10 on the bottom. On July 10, I return for the dreaded spacers! (I'm getting bands for my fun fun appliance)
When they took the thing holding my mouth open out, it was the weirdest feeling ever, but once they placed the archwire, my lips slid over everything much more smoothly. The assistant also did an EXCELLENT job of clipping, polishing and making sure there were no poky wires.
I of course got PURPLE ligs (light lavender, actually) and I have a powerchain on my two front teeth (brace metal colored since they were out of lavender).
I am perfectly comfortable right now, but I'll probably be feeling it later, especially on the powerchained teeth.
They put a smaller bracket on my baby-canine to keep it in line - and we will know about halfway through this trip if the root will stand through it all to allow for a veneer, or if it will loosen and fall out and I'll get a bridge.
It's so funny that with the wire installed, you can see exactly how OFF the arch is.
While my teeth aren't sore yet, I am attempting to eat a bowl of ramen noodles (which is proving to be more of a challenge than I thought lol!)
Here is my B-Day Photo - Excuse my tore up lips, but this was right after I got home, and I had the chapstick on that works wonders, but makes my lips look funky - and my batteries were half dead so I figured these were ok for now.

Congratulations! Getting the braces on isn't bad, it's the waiting that is so agonizing. I hope you're enjoying your noodles, they're fun to clean out.

Hi Pixel Witch,
I just read your whole story, thanks alot for sharing it. Congrats on getting your braces!
I'm in the same situation as you with the baby canine right now. It is bracketed and we will see if it takes the move, so far so good. I did have two impacted canines that were surgically exposed. One of them moved and I had my baby canine pulled and the permanent canine is in place now. The right impacted canine doesn't seem to be moving, so I am glad that I kept my baby canine as we are going to use it now. I figure why get an implant now, it's healthy and strong so I'll just wait for the day it falls out them get an implant. You never know, yours and mine may last forever.
I read that you may get a veneer for the baby canine, I was thinking maybe do some bonding so that it matches the permanent canine. It would be less expensive, have you been told which is the better route to take? I've also been thinking about the gumline, as it is lower with the baby tooth. Not sure yet what can be done since it is a baby.
Take care and good luck with your treatment, glad that it's all started now.

I miraculously didn't get anything stuck in my braces, and my ramen was really long! I was sitting here with a hand mirror as I ate, hah! I just rolled it up like spaghetti and chomped it off . I did have to proxy out a small piece of parsley though.
Brushing for the first time was ... interesting.
Hi Shawnie - I have pretty much every option open for my baby-tooth. He "suggested" a veneer, but my regular dentist is going to go over every single option I have once the time comes. I will definitely go with something in the middle in regards to expense and how it looks. A veneer is probably the most expensive option, but we'll see!
If it does fall out/need to be removed, I will have a harder time deciding what to do. (Implant, bridge, etc.) I like the idea of an implant, but the time it would take, and the procedure isn't something I want to think about right now - but it would be nicer to have that than a bridge.
We'll see! Maybe when I get to that point I will have won the lotto Okay, not really.

If you win the Lotto, I better get a small referral bonus! Hehehe, glad you're enjoying your first day in braces.

I added a pic to the first post, but here it is a big larger.
I noticed one of my ligs was wonky when I got home, and called, and they said I would be fine til my next appointment when I got them changed, so I'm fine with it.
Ignore my poor lips, I used my zinc oxide chapstick which works AMAZINGLY at keeping them hydrated, but makes my lips look like crap. I took this earlier before I found my "pretty" chap stick and didn't feel like retaking them.

I am getting a little achy off and on. It seems to be cycling through my teeth, but not enough to really put me out. (so far, I'm not going to count it out quite yet!)
It's mainly those two upper centrals and my lower canines that ache.
My husband keeps expecting me to fall to the floor writhing in pain or something, and seems slightly disappointed I'm not laying on the couch with one arm delicately thrown over my forehead, begging him to wait on me hand and foot. I really should have taken advantage, but I guess it's too late now
He'll probably have his chance next month when I get spacers.

I looked a little more closely at my "wonky" lig and it appears that there is a little hunk of glue stuck where the lig would go on that side. I'll mention it on my next visit since they said it would be fine til then
Anyway, holy powerchain! The gap between my two front teeth is definitely smaller today, as I can no longer fit my regular size proxibrush between them, and there are VISIBLE spaces between them and the laterals that were certainly NOT there before.
Interestingly enough, my centrals are not sore - but the laterals are.
Now, all four of my bottom front teeth are rather "ow" when I touch them, but its eased when I brush.
I also finally snapped a pic of my giftbag thingy.
(yes I'm aware my ortho's info is visible, Miss Smiley referred me there, so it's already out there on the board)
