GETTING BRACES 09/10/07 ONE year braceaversary today :)

#1 Post by METALMOUTHPOOH »

OK I SINCE I HAVE BEEN "LURKING" ON THIS SITE FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS I THOUGHT ITS TIME FOR ME TO GET OUT AND INTRODUCE MYSELF. HOPING TO MEET SOME NEW FRIENDS TO STICK WITH ME ON THIS NEW ADVENTURE!!
I AM 30 WITH A B-DAY COMING IN NOVEMBER ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO I GOT ALL WISDOM TEETH REMOVED (LORD THAT WAS NOT FUN)
THAT DAY WAS THE DAY I KNEW IT WAS TIME FOR ME TO MAKE THE APPOINTMENT AND START THE ROAD WITH BRACES. I LIKE MANY ON THIS SITE HAVE HAD BRACES I WORE THEM AS A TEEN WHICH AT THAT TIME I WORE CLEARS ONE.
BUT I THINK THIS TIME I AM GOING WITH METAL MY ORTHO SAYS THEY ARE THE BEST AND HE DOESNT LIKE WORKING WITH THE OTHERS ETC... SO TO ME I AM WILLING TO DO THINGS HIS WAY.

I LOVE MY ORTHO (SO FAR :D ) I WENT TO ONE THAT WANTED TO PULL OUT 4 TEETH/CROWDING TOP AND BOTTOM/OVERBIT/JAW TO NARROW/TONGUE THURST/ETC

AND THE ONE I PICKED NUMBER ONE

HAS A PERSONALITY!! HA HA HA
BUT I CAN KEEP MY TEETH AND HIS PRICE IS 1900.00 LESS
ALSO I FOUND OUT A FRIEND OF MINE GOES THERE AND HAS HAD NOTHING BUT GOOD STUFF TO SAY ABOUT HIM.
SO NOT SURE ON HOW LONG I WILL HAVE TO WEAR THEM I THINK HE SAID 18-22 MONTHS I KNOW HE DID SAY RUBBER BANDS

BUT I AM READY AND SUPER EXCITED
I AM REALLY SCARED NOW THAT MONDAY IS COMING UP.... BUT IF I MIGHT ADD....

I CAN NOT WAIT TO GET THESE SPACERS OUT (I HAVE 4) THESE LITTLE BLUE GUYS HHHHHHHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTT

I AM GOING TO POST PICTURES THE BEFORE AND AFTER SO PLEASE CHECK BACK AND VISIT ME

Welcome to the forums, MMP! Great to have you here. It's terrific that you've found an ortho you like and can seemingly communicate well with; that's more than half the battle! Plus, it sounds like you're enthusiastic about your upcoming journey and have a great attitude!

As for the metal vs. ceramic question, you're right that it depends on the ortho's preference; some prefer metal, others leave the decision to the prospective wearer. I have metal myself, but I'm not convinced there's any great advantage of one type over the other. The archwire actually does the work; the brackets merely are the anchors that hold the wires to your teeth.

But, as I stated, the most important thing is your comfort level and confidence in your ortho.

We're delighted you've come here, and look forward to following and supporting you on your upcoming braces journey.

Take good care :!:

Good luck with your journey, I never needed spacers, but many ppl on the forums call them many different bad names lol, and those re some that don't care at all. But anyways, have fun seeing all the changes that are yet to come,

ps..Cant wait for pics

Long shot but is his name Mason? My Orthodontist (Charlie Mason) has a brother in, I think, Georgia, and I don't need any extractions or anything and I know lots of people where one of the other orthos in town wanted to do extractions, then Dr. Mason didn't.

Your story sounded familiar so I wondered if there was a chance that you were going to my ortho's brother... which would be weird, but there is a lady on there who goes to the same guy as me!

So it has been only 3 days....
1st day was hard.... couldnt eat/floss/sleep etc
2nd day was getting better... I lived in wax but I was able to eat and sleep only thing weird was I noticed glue stuck on my gums from the braces....but I think it is coming off little by little. Also I noticed extra glue on my teeth on the bottom ones..... why????
3nd day I was able to work most of the day without wax plus I was able to floss all my teeth and it took 30 MINUTES..... man thats forever :x
I also notice when I was eating I can chew no problems on the right side but on the left it hurts a little not sure how to explain it but I hope that goes away.
I ran out of wax which sent me to 4 stores and only walked away with 2 packs..... but I found a web site that had them at a bargain.

My lips are still swollen and talking with a lisp and whistling.... etc

My water pik is charging so I can use it in the morning.... and I ordered a toothbrush so it should be here soon...

Thanks for reading my story

I am posting pictures soon once I find out how to get it to work right....

I noticed the extra glue thing too!! I thought it was just my dentist being sloppy haha :D So I didn't want to say anything to them hehe Anybody know if that's normal or if it's going to leave like a stain or anything like that? kinda weird looking

Hey Pooh,

Congratulations on getting braced, i know what you mean about the spacers but at least that part is over now!! I found that the first week of wearing my brace was the worst for rubbing and after that it wasn't so bad. Also I have been finding that different teeth start being uncomfortable every few days so I keep learning new ways to chew to aviod them!

Good luck, and keep us up to date, I look forward to seeing your pics!

KK: yeah if I still have the glue when I go for my next adjustment I am going to ask him to take it off.... hey also I have another question...

when does the dot on the corner top of the brace on the front two teeth ever go away??? Anything I can use to get it off???

AmybettyB: thanks for writting.... I tried your eatting technique and just moved the food around till I found a tooth that didnt hurt

I am doing sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better. Lets see no wax at all today....

Not to mention I am down to 20 minutes on flossing.... (not using the water pik) since I am planning on returning it and exchanging it for one that you can adjust the pressure.....

and also I can eat full meals.... and no more cuts or sores....

I officially love my braces.... :-)o
