Hi Joanna,

I sense that your family members probably feel envious or jealous of you, and that is why they act critically towards you. They probably envy your courage in doing what you're doing, not to mention the fact that you will look fabulous when the process is complete. It's sad that they cannot overcome whatever they are feeling, and show you the support you deserve in being everything you are and still can be. Don't let them discourage you or drag you down. Stay strong and know that you willhave lots of support here.

You guys are just awesome :D ! As you all said I just let go of what they were saying and didn't care... I know this is the right procedure... And I know that I really need this.
I kind off wish I had a time machine right now, hhehe!
I often don't listen to what they say at all, 'cause I'm old enough to know exactly what I want and what's best 4 me, I just hate when people mind someone else's business like that...! Makes me :-=
But oh well... whatever seemed like a dry socket has passed, I made it bleed again and desinfected my mouth three times a day. The pain is now gone :) I'll update on Tuesday after my right pre molar is out :)
My lower incisor's roots seem to be doing something, I'd actually risk to say that they might have moved a tiny little bit, since my arch wire wasn't removed...

Thank you so much!!!

Joanna20, I'm glad to hear your dry socket thing has gone away, I'm sure that's a huge relief for you!

As far as your family goes, I think it's pretty normal to get bummed out by an unsupportive group who is so close to you. People generally turn to family for love, encouragement and support, but that's not always what you get... I think you are taking the right route though, by not letting it discourage you from the path you are on. Maybe in time your family will come around and be on your side!

Good luck!

Olá Joana!!

I was catching up your story, and i noticed that you're a bit ansious....
i really don't think you should be, you're having so many progresses in such a short period of time!!
And sometimes things seem they're progressing more quickly, nad suddenly the treatment seems to stop working... but it doesn't!! There are different moments in all treatments...you have to be patient!!

About extractions, you have to trust your ortho... they only extract the extremely necessary... and never more than that...

And you're family.... well, people think whatever they want to, but you only must listen people who KNOW what they're talking about!!

Cheers e beijinho
Susana

Hey Susanna! Thank you for your comment, lovely!
It's a shame that us Portuguese are just so negative (you are an exception! Thanks God!)
Oh well I am not the most patient person in the world, at all - and I get bored sooooo easily. If I don't see quick progress I just stress out. I'm a person who needs to be busy and seeing progress all the time!
I'm addicted to "wowing" myself  !

I am in a more positive mood now :D Thanks to all of you.

The extraction on Tuesday went just great, I didn't even notice that the tooth was out!!! Comparing to the other one this was nothing! I was dancing  on Tuesday night and I could be dancing right now  ! I asked about the other tooth and he said it was healing just fine, I told him that it appeared as if I had had a dry socket and told him that I had religiously disinfected it and followed all the procedures!

On Friday, I'll be having my adjustment and I'm hoping to notice some real change after that!

I can't help it, I've got this Drama Queen plus I want this and I want this right now and I'll do whatever it takes type of personality, I get obsessed with things I want to achieve. And trust me, other than Uni this is a main priority!

Oh and did I mention I'm a control freak has well? I seem to be developing this perfectionism that is somewhat negative…

Beijinhos Susana, Obrigada!

Joanna

Hey guys!
Yesterday I got my 3rd (or is it 4th?) adjustment. It was pretty exciting since I got my first ever powerchain!!! I just so happy when I saw it in my ortho's hands!
I told her "Oh a power chain!!!" and she replied "Precisely."
Has soon has she started to adjust it the pain started has well... it's been hurting quite a lot but I'm really not whinning, I've been waiting for it forever!!! She adviced me to take pain killers over the next couple of weeks! I told her that I hoped the gaps would take long to close 'cause I'm cheewing with only two teeth on each side, she said "oh no it won't take long, don't worry".
I got to keep the same archwires on both arches. ..! I have them since...hummm... the beggining of my journey?! My lower arch has only been changed once, I think!
Anyways, they only had a purple powerchain for the lenght she wanted. She knows I love the baby pink ones so she was reluctant and was going to ask for different one but I said It didn't matter at all...
I told her that all I wanted was for them to get fixed and she said "I'm POSITIVE they will!"
I'll see her again by the end of November. I just can't wait for some progress...!

Here's my new "wholes":

Glad you're feeling better now Joanna! I'm jealous of the coloured powerchains people get. My ortho only does clear ones which stain within a week or two, and seemed reluctant when I suggested he could get coloured ones. :(

Families aren't always as supportive as they could or should be, but I'd imagine that at least part of their attitude is fuelled by worry.

Chin up and here's hoping those gaps close up really soon and prove them wrong!

Congrats on getting your first ever powerchain, and in purple too. KK will be proud of you! I'll be getting powerchains too at either my next adj. or the one after. It depends on when it happens as to what color I'll get. If It's at my Dec. 11th appt. I'll get Christmas colors. If it's after Christmas, I'm not sure what I'll get but KK wants me to get purple, since we have kind of a deal going on!! I suppose I could live with purple, if I have too. :paperbag:
I'm not glad to hear about the pain part tho! I hope it doesn't last to long for you and you soon get used to them.
Thanks for posting your pix and hope you start to see progress real soon!

C' Ya' Later! Ken. :smoken: :rawk:
Hey! It would be lovely to get Christmas colored powerchains... I wonder what kind of color combinations they have!!! Good luck! The pain is OK right now, I almost don't feel a thing. The powerchain is doing a great job has it seems to me that they've moved a little bit backwards already.
I'm going to call the office and see if I can have an early adjustment for November!

Take care and good luck!

KK - Powerchains really are amaysing! And I have a question for you since you've had them for longer than me: Do they continue to push the teeth back throughout the weeks or you only see progress during the first week???

Lisa65 I would kill for a non colored powerchain! Specially when I get one on top!!! I think maybe you could suggest that again to your ortho? Say that you can't clean well enough 'cause some foods (like dairy & bread) hide behind the powerchain so you can't see them very well  !! Good luck & thanks for posting!

Jillianleab Nice! Good luck for you too!

Hi guys! :-1
I apologise for not posting on the boards lately  I suck  and school is giving me a hard time lately  …
I’ve got fresh news though!
I went to my hygienist consultation last week, she said my oral hygiene is really good – which doesn’t really make much sense ‘cause I’ve been flossing very little lately  .
But oh well. I got an earlier adjustment this month – today – and I’ve scheduled my upper extractions, which will be in early January  !
Now the bad news:
My lowers haven’t moved as much as she wanted them to, I think they moved 1ml/1.5ml which I think it’s quite good for 4 weeks but she said it wasn’t good so she inserted coil springs between my canines and my laterals to move my canines only for this month – I was so surprised ‘cause when I got home (1 hour later) my right canine had already moved, creating a tiny gap! And then she claims my teeth are slow hehehe My right side is always so well behaved comparing to left side, it’s ridiculous.
Oh and she told me I need to fill a cavity, a tiny one that was starting in my 2nd premolar before the extractions. I’m trying to schedule it for this week.
My ortho. was lovely like always but she told me that it will take a long time for my canines to come in place  .

Patience  !!! I’m very excited with the whole thing though. My gaps are supposed to be almost closed by the summer  ! She removed the brackets on my upper 1st pre-molars which made me realize that my upper arch has widened since I’ve gotten braced  !

 Can’t wait for these little f***ers to come in place  .

Luv you all,

Joanna  (feeling a whole lot better thanks to YOU GUYS!)

Wow, Joanna, you've had quite a bit going on! It's great you go your extractions scheduled, and that you got good marks on your hygiene! Kind of a bummer that your lowers are moving as quickly as the uppers, but hopefully those springs will do their job and like you said, get those f***ers in place!

Good luck!

Hi guys! I’ve finally had a little time to update my story. I once again apologize for the lack of posting lately, but it’s been crazy… no time for myself at all…
So, I had to reschedule my 2nd adjustment (post lower extractions) because of a test that just came up. And has for my cleaning I had to miss it as well today… So now my next cleaning will have to be February – because the upper extractions will take place in early January. I’m really excited I can’t believe it’s less than a month away!
I hope no dry sockets or complications happen this time – I’m way less nervous now.

Has to progress, I think it’s been a bit weak. I can’t wait for my next consultation to see what she thinks of it. The coils she inserted have definitely worked. My right canine has moved about 1,5ml (yes, I mean millimetres) and my left canine has moved nearly 1ml. According to what I’ve been reading this is OK, but not really good. My ortho. told me that my teeth seem to have really long roots, so they’re well implemented in the jaw. Which is good in a way. On the other hand this isn’t very helpful when it comes to orthodontic movement. They’ve moved so well in the first couple of months, I was expecting them to be a little bit more cooperative.
One thing I found interesting was the fact that 90% of the movement happened in the 48 hours right after the adjustment (terrible pain, didn’t really eat for two days). After that movement has been really low and pain-free.
But in a way things seem to be coming along. I’ve put back some weight, which is great! I’m actually noticing some changes in my bite, for the better. I’m likely to lose all this good weight again with the upper extractions, but hopefully they won’t take to long to close. I’ve complained about it to my ortho and she told me that she understands why it’s so hard to eat but there’s no other way, she advised me to eat less healthy for a while, more fats and sugarish things – but never forgetting to brush my teeth right after. I’m not sure if my chin is moving forwards or if it’s because the teeth are moving backwards it makes it a little bit more prominent. But this isn’t a problem at all, it’s good.
I’ve also started to look at things more positively, I mean, I’ve never heard of exctractions gaps not closing, eventually they will. No matter how much time it takes, I’ll get there – that all I want. Now that I’ve gain back some weight I feel more confident again and that makes me less worried, less stressed about this whole thing.

Here are some recent pictures:

I hope all of you are doing just fine. I’m just about to get on vacations so I promise to catch up on your stories and leave a post. I think about all of you quite often!

Luv,

Joanna

Wow, Joanna, I think you've made some really nice progress! It's god to hear you are looking at things positivley with regards to your extraction gaps. You're right, they will close eventually! Do you know if since you have long roots that will help with your teeth staying put after your treatment is over?

Have a good vacation :)
