So here are my pictures taken this morning...

My right side - where I have the perfect bite!

My left side - where my bite needs a lot of work.

You'll notice my canines don't have brackets - that's because they're going to be removed.

And thanks Karen for your support!

I forgot to mention that I'm not getting the adult tooth removed. Apparently I misunderstood during my initial consultation. I'm really glad that I don't have to have any perfectly fine adult teeth removed. :-)

My mum bumped into my dentist and she stopped him to say 'hi'. He told my mum that I was "meticulous" with my oral hygeine! SO HAPPY!!

Also, the day after my 1st adjustment I was feeling pretty sore, and one particular molar on the left side was really quite tender. It looked pretty raised to me when I looked in the mirror - maybe the gum is inflamed from movement? It didn't look like it had moved much to me, but I guess I have to be more patient...

Not sore at all today... back to how I was the day before my adjustment.

Well, I haven't updated in quite a long time. I thought I would feel better progress if I kept the updates along with my adjustments.

My 2nd adjustment is tomorrow, and I have definitely noticed movement these past two months. There is a space which has formed next to my left canine, which obviously means that my front gap is getting smaller and they are making room for my adult canine. The baby canine is quite loose, and I can feel the adult canine pushing down on it.

Will post some more pictures after my second adjustment tomorrow.

I think it's a curry night tonight...

Thanks Karen!

The adjustment went well this morning. Next adjustment in 7 weeks I'm going to have an x-ray to see if my canines have moved since my original x-rays.

Will post pictures when I get back from work tonight.

I have been terrible and updating this journal! I feel awful! Let me recap:

Third adjustment:

Nothing really out of the ordinary. I had a wedge put against my lower incisor to start turning it. That has worked well, and it's almost straight!

Fourth adjustment:

My fourth adjustment was a couple of days ago, and I am happy, but very tender. I had a wire change on the top and a power chain put across my four incisors to start to close that gap. I also noticed that the two smaller incisors also have tie wires on them. Owie! I've noticed a lot of movement (my gap is a lot smaller in just two days!) to the point that even my parents noticed. I'm happy for the movement (what he's been doing the past six months is beyond me), but I am very tender. It's actually making eating very difficult.

Will update with pictures from last adjustments and this one too. :-)

Elyse's braces story - one year on

#25 Post by Elyse84 »

Wow, I haven't been on here for so long. Things have been so hectic. I left my job and went away to India to do some humanitarian work, and now I'm back on board!

It's been one year since I had my braces put on, and while I have attended all my scheduled appointments, I feel that progress is lagging. In my initial consultation, my ortho said that I would be having my canines extracted around the 10 month mark, and we're now on the 12 month mark. I can tell that my left canine has descended lower than the right (the adult is obviously pushing on it), but the x-ray shows that the right one isn't really moving that much. He said he is going to give it until my next appointment, do another x-ray, and if it's still not moved then we'll have to be more proactive ie. expose it and pull the sucker down!

My rotated bottom incisor is straight and the wedge was removed at my last adjustment. My gap has been closed with a power chain with four 'links', which was removed at the last appointment. Because I haven't had the ferenum removed however, it's slightly opened up again, but nothing that a power chain couldn't fix in a matter of minutes.

I'll put some piccies up of where I'm at now, just as soon as I find the blasted digital camera.
