Hi Ken,
Yes, Austin in the 70s was great. I was in school then, but loved it enough, I stayed, went to UT and found work here so I wouldn't have to move.

I'm flying to the UK, Scotland for a 5 day bus tour, 2 nights in Edinburgh and 2 nights in London, going to the Chinese New Year celebration on Sunday Feb 10th in London's China Town! Very fun! Coming home on Feb 11th.

I am being very careful with my bite. I have not crashed my teeth against my lower brackets at all! So I'm thinking he'll let me go with out the Bite Turbo. If he says it's necessary for the success of my orthodontic work.... I'll make a deal with him that if he lets me go to Scotland and London and eat with out the turbo, that I'll come in on Feb 12th and have it put in.

You should come to Austin for vacation! The tourist have a great time in old downtown, BBQ and Mexican restaurants, going out on the lakes, hike n bike trail on Auditorium Shores of Town Lake, etc... Having been here before, all the old areas are the same -- you'd love it!

Well, I'm 3 days from going to Scotland and London. I'll be back in 2 weeks.

I went today to my Ortho and he is not going to replace my Bite Turbo that fell off... he said that my bite has changed enough these past 3 weeks that my teeth are now clear of hitting the brackets!! I admitted that at night I'd put wax between my teeth so they would not hit. He laughed but said it bought me enough movement time that right now my upper teeth do not hit my brackets! YEAH! I can eat restaurant food on my trip!!!

He said he wished I'd let him put metal Damon on my front 6 teeth because those 6 will move slower than the rest of my mouth. Said if all were metal, I'd be out of the braces faster.

>sigh ... f a s t e r . . . . .

SOOO I told him after my vacation, seeing my friends, I'll do it. I have no other big events for the rest of the year and all my family and friends know I have braces so faster sounds fantastic!! and the little Damon brackets are very easy to keep clean, so I actually won't miss those big clear brackets with their ligatures.... odd as it is, those 6 big brackets feel HUGE inside my mouth!!

I have an appointment for Feb 19th. She said if something opened up sooner, she'd let me know.

I'll be full metal Damon on the fast track to a beautiful smile!!
I'll post a photo when I get them!

Hi Everyone !
I'm back from my vacation. It was a wonderful time. There were 26 in our tour group. I was able to eat pretty much anything I wanted. Just cut everything into very small pieces and chewed very slowly.

Only down side - I came home with a cold/flu. Coughing, sneezing, hoarse voice, etc... So odd to be so happy to be home, doing my laundry, but still feel sick. But I am glad to be home with my own bed, my three little dogs, etc....

Tuesday I go in and change my 6 clear ice brackets for Damon 3mx to match my other teeth. This way all my teeth will move at the same pace.

Well, off now to continue doing my chores,
Great to be home!

Hi Peb,

Welcome home!

Glad to see that you're back and you had a wonderful trip, but it stinks that you came home sick.

Just take care of yourself and feel better!

Hi Pebbles ~

It sounds like you've had a bit of a rocky start to your journey. :( Hopefully all goes well from here on out!

I have just started my journey. Had extractions done and will get my lowers braced in two weeks and get a bite plate. Not looking forward to the bite plate. I am assuming, like you, nothing will be touching and I will be finding it very difficult to eat! :x The plan is to wear the bite plate for 3 to 4 months and then get my uppers braced.

At least your journey is a short one - 12 months sounds AWESOME!! :D

Thank Ya'll !!

Today I removed the 6 Ice brackets and replaced them with the Damon 3mx -- so all my brackets are the same. I am very happy with them. They are very small, smooth and easy to clean.

I am confident that having them will have my brace time reduced ! yes, it's really not the comfort .... I really want to get this over with FAST and if this can save me 2-3 months, well, that's fine with me!

My cold is getting better and I'm totally over the Jet Lag!

Scotland was beautiful. If you can ever go, do it. Lovely people, good food and wonderful scenery. The mountains and locks are breathtaking.

Glad to hear your appointment went well!

I'm going with ceramic on the top and I have LOTS of spaces. I hope the ceramic doesn't extend my treatment time. He told me it won't. I guess I'll just have to trust him! :) :?

I'm sure Scotland is beautiful. However, I don't think I'll ever be visiting. I kinda have a fear of flying - although I've actually flown at least 9 times. With a little anxiety medication, anything is possible! Although, the more that I fly, the more comfortable I've started feeling but I still dislike it! And flying over water is totally out of the question - at least right now! If I crash, I want to crash on land - at least the sharks won't eat me!

Thanks Gurl ! I'll try to figure out how to take good photos of my braces and get them posted. I still haven't taken the time to get all my photos out of my camera from my vacation.

Braced32 -- I too was once very anxious over flying. I'd only flown 7 times in my life. Then 9-11-01 happened. I decided right then that I'd NEVER fly again. well... never is a long time. In 2003 my friends went to England with the USAF. They begged me to come visit them. I'm an Anglophile, so the next thing I know, I'm getting a passport and I flew over to visit them in January 2005. Then in 2007 he announced he was retiring from the Air Force and they were coming home so I flew back over to visit them. Then over Christmas, my friend invited me to go see Scotland so off we went for a group bus tour of Scotland, then 3 days in London before coming home.

So I've now flown 3 times in 3 years and before that I'd flown 7 times in my whole life!!

So you just wait... you never know how you will feel about things in the next 10-20 years.

Pebbles,

I hope the new brackets work out and the ortho journey is shortened. Sounds like you have endured some adventures already. All part of the process is what they tell me. I must confess that as an older adult I have been asked about why I didn't get clear braces. My answer is the same as what yours is now, the ortho recommended them and the procedure time would be shorter. I must confess there have been times when I felt like I should have insisted on the clear brackets but after hearing your story I realize it was in my best interest to go with the junior high school look.

Looking forward to following your progress- be well

Hey! I am in the EXACT same boat as you, I have bite turbos in the front and molar build ups in back. None of my teeth touch to chew food and it sucks. I've actually been throwing food into a food grinder and eating it that way. So this morning when I woke up one of my bite turbos broke off. Aparantly they are to fix your bite, and allow your teeth to move around without hitting other teeth, which shaves 3-6 months off of your treatment time. I have to go get a turbo put back on tomorrow morning, and hopefully I'll get my rubberbands then too:) It seems like something always goes wrong a week before my next appointment, and then they do whatever they were going to do a week early, and give me a new appt. My job is going to love this:P
