Sounds like I need to get the wife to make some Chicken Pasanda. Or even figure it out myself. Thanks for the recommendation.

And I know all about the figure 8 ligature configuration. All my brackets are tied that way now. Yep, that first adjustment was a bugger. And I've got spacers again so that they can try to get those last three bands on. Hello, Advil.

But then this is your story, so I'll shut the heck up now. :D

Am I right in thinking, that they do figure 8 cofigurations to ensure that the arch wire, stays attached to the brackets??

I went for an adjustment today and I've also got a figure 8 on my lower biscupids.

I don't know, Dodger, I was wondering that myself. I would assume so, because the figure 8s are on the teeth on which there's the biggest bends in the wire.

MMG, don't worry about it, talk away. :D

The ortho tech told me that the figure 8 ties are to keep the wire tight in the slot, or to speed rotation of teeth by increasing the pressure.

Yeah... That's what it felt like for a couple of days. Very tight. Ouch!

Yeah, that is true.

In order to make an 8, the lig has to be stretched a bit more.
So it fits a bit tighter and so can reduce more the friction of the
archwire in the bracket. I had all 3 options to connect the wire in
the bracket.

- normal 0 form around the bracket.
- figure 8, more tight.
- tie wire, most tight.

Lucky you, Clo. :D

Well, yesterday was adjustment #2. They tied on my second bicuspids, which were previously off the wire. Ouch. My teeth were pretty sore yesterday. Much better today.

I went for relatively-conservative purple ligs, because I'm going away with the military for a month to Fort Bliss, TX; just outside El Paso. 8) I hope I don't have any problems! I don't want to have to hunt down an orthodontist who will take pity on me.

I go back on Monday for my bottom braces! Good think I don't leave for TX until early March. That'll give me two weeks to get used to them, and go back if I have any issues.

I got the bottom braces on. Boy, are they annoying!! I was under the impression that my lower teeth were in pretty good shape, and I deluded myself into thinking it would be a breeze. Wrong. I have a bicuspid that's rotated a good 60 degrees or so, and they put on lingual buttons and powerchains to rotate it back. Yikes! I also got a chain on the other side, to un-tip a severely tipped bicuspid.

They are noticably more sore than the uppers were when I first had them installed. Nothing that I can't handle with ibuprofen, but I don't think I'll be playing much at band practice tonight.

The pain and canker sores from the bottom set are long gone. It was much better after only four days or so.

Gotta go in tomorrow for a new wire, methinks. It's really wiggly in the molar band, and it's not like that on the other side. I think the same thing happened that happened on the top set when I first got them on. :? We'll see what the good doc says.

Hey Babe! My advice is just practice smiling. Smile at everyone. They really don't care about your braces. Heck, on the day I first got my braces, I had lost my bank card so I had to go to the bank to get a new one. It turns out that the guy at the bank knew my coworkers, and we ended up chatting for 15 or 20 minutes. This was right after getting the braces on!

I was away for a while; I noticed your post is a few weeks old. I hope you're confident now! :D

Had an adjustment on Thursday and they said the teeth are moving really well. :) Boy, did they hurt. The top is fine, but they wire-tied my front bottom teeth together like a powerchain to pull them over to the right.

...and I have to go back on the 29th for spacers for bands around the 2nd molars. :( Wah.

Wow, I can't believe it's been a year since I was here last!

I figured I'd update my ticker... I got the Good News yesterday and booked my debanding and retainer appointments. Double good news was that yesterday was my final payment, so I'll be a few bucks richer every month again. Yee haw!

I posted these in the Naked Tooth forum, but I guess I'll finish off my thread here, too:

They're gone!! Yay!

Small before and after:

Before: A silly drunk shot. That's the state I'd have to be in to smile for a camera!

After: :D

Well worth it!

Congratulations! As one who was most often smiling while drunk before as well, I look forward to being able to show off myself in two years...

Glad to hear your road to a better smile's paid off.

Beautiful smile. It changed alot since you got your braces on. I hope you're glad you have a nice smile now.
