Michelle's Journey in Braces - x2

#1 Post by mwp921 »

I am 29 years old and this is my second time in braces. I have a moderate overbite which will be corrected with lower jaw surgery in approximately 18 months. My upper and lower midline is also off.

I had braces in high school but failed to wear my retainers for the proper amount of time after being debanded. My smile was "ok" when the braces came off, but no where near perfect. I still had a huge overbite and my midline was still off.

My braces were applied on Tuesday, May 13th. I have clear In-Ovation C's on the top (with metal towards the back) and metal In-Ovations on the bottom.

(I copied the top section from my introduction in order to start my journal here in "Our Braces Stories")
-----------------------------------

I had my first follow-up appointment on Tuesday of this week. (Rememeber, I have brackets with doors.) I got to skip the "next" wire altogether because my teeth are moving so quickly! So I'm in the wire they were going to put on me at my 3rd appointment! Yahooo...

Anyways, at my next appointment they are going to band the very back molars because, in my ortho's words, "we need to give the oral surgeon something to pull on".

And has anyone had a button on a molar before? I have one molar that is not moving the way he wants so they are going to put a button on next time so that he can use a chain to pull it into place. I'm assuming they have to de-band that molar to bond the button on? Or maybe I have no clue what I'm talking about. And if they attach the chain the the button, wouldn't another tooth need to have a button for the chain to attach to on the other end???

I'll update with pictures sometime over the weekend as time permits.

Wow that's awesome about skipping the next wire! I hope my teeth move that fast, also! I am looking forward to seeing your progress pics. Congrats!
