that's good :) but really don't worry if the odd bit of food gets stuck on the clots. They find a way of ejecting the foreign body in time and I think poking around with anything, (even sterilised) is more likely to do more harm than good. :?

Though I know it's really tempting!

Good luck for tomorrow!

GGggrrrrrr, just posted a big reply, then it got lost when a system error came up :-+ Lets try again....

Second set of extractions done and dusted - Yippee!!!!! :-)o

My dentist checked the sites from last week's extractions, and confirmed that everything looked healthy etc. Then it was down to business for this week - injections etc, then before you know it, a couple of wiggles and a push on each tooth, and "voila", out they popped! Everybody said that it was much more straightforward than last week, and there was hardly any bleeding too.

In fact, the upper did bleed for quite some time, so learning from last week, I ended up keeping the gauze in for about 4-5 hours. It wasn't very pleasant taking it out, as it had kind of suctioned itself into the top site :yuck:

I am quite sore tonight, particularly round the left side of my nose, but I have managed water, soup, and pain relief!

Now I can start to get excited about the final phase .... getting my uppers on. Roll on 22nd August

hi, sksk11, and congratulations on getting yr extractions done and being on the way to your braces!
One of the worst parts of extractions (I think) is the fear in advance (plus of course the worry after that everything is ok). The pain will die down as the extraction sites settle, I'm sure. Now the extractions are done you can look forward to getting your teeth sorted!
I had extractions about a year before I got my braces (to help fix gum disease). I didn't mind losing 2 wisdom teeth, but I felt really sad at losing 2 molars. It was like losing a bit of my body (which suppose it was), but maybe physios think more sensibly/practically!

Good luck with your journey!

So here's the latest piccies for you. I know some of you may not want to see them, but for those who are awaiting their extractions, it might help to see what they look like as the heal.

So without further ado.....

Image
Left side of photo is the week old site, right side of the photo is now 2 days old. Excuse my stained teeth - had just got back from lunch out.

Image
My new gappy smile (and this was the 'better' side that I used to show in photos where possible!)

Image
The most horrible picture of my teeth - I took it to show you all how much lower my molars sit compared to my front teeth, hence my partial open bite at my canines and lateral incisors. They look so wonky :-(

Image
My four departed teeth

I haven't been quite as paranoid about the sites this time. Swallowing seems easier (without my tongue wanting to push into the extraction holes), but I think this might be helped by the fact I can hook my tongue behind my very tilted molar on the left side on my mouth!.

I think I was a bit adventurous at lunch today. We went to a beautiful pub, and had deep fried Brie Cheese, and then I had fish pie and chips. I ended up leaving loads because it took so long to eat it, trying to keep it on the right side of my mouth, that I got full very quickly! Tonight the gum on the right side of my mouth is a bit sore, I think the newly healed areas are a bit sensitive to heat etc.

Thanks Elpi and Longinthetooth for your good wishes. I am so excited that this stage is out of the way now, and I can't wait to get the braces on and start to see some changes. I'm a bit disappointed that my lowers won't be going on for at least a month after the uppers. Do you think it's worth asking to get them on sooner?

Well, bye for now, and hopefully the next time I post, it will be with pictures of my new brackets!

My family hosted a big barbeque today, and my brother, sister-in-law, and my 11 month old niece came to visit. It was a lovely day. My brother was messing around with a friend's camera, and took this picture.....

Image

Normally I would have been quite happy with this photo, but with my lovely new gaps, it didn't quite have the same effect! I said to a friend, "all I need now is for you to photoshop me in some extra teeth to cover the gap and to replace the gum where my molars sit too low, and fix my wonky canine on the other side"!...........

TADA!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait until my smile looks like this

Sorry guys, just fancied a grumble, and I knew you would all understand.

My extraction sites are healing, but the right (older) sites are still bleeding sometimes when I eat. I can only presume that the gum is still fleshy so gets scratched etc easily when I'm eating.

But my main problem tonight is PAIN :-((

My teeth on the left side of my mouth are killing me! I presume it's the same 'settling' pain that I felt on the other side, as the teeth settle into their new found free space.

I can't believe I still have to wait 3 weeks before I get braced. I'm now worried about how much more my teeth might move naturally (and out of my control). I just want to get it started now - I could bear the discomfort if I knew it was actually achieving something.

For extracted teeth, Ibuprofen is your number 1 friend for pain (aside from the heavy duty stuff like oxycontin, codeine, etc)!! :)

Also, salt water will help the inflamation, turning it into a nice chewy-tingly sensation :)

I've got the achy teeth blues too! I hope yours are feeling a bit better. I have been taking ibuprofen and it seems to help, but that's just what I always take.

Sks your mouth is healing so it is sort of achieving something really, I'm sure in the space of 3 weeks your teeth won't have moved into the wrong place. I felt frustrated waiting for my brace day too I remember but it really won't be long now till you experience the joys of on the move teeth (and a mouth full of metal) :D

And so the final countdown begins!!!

12 DAYS UNTIL MY BRACE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you all for your advice and reassurances through my extractions journey - I am really looking forward to sharing my braces journey with you once I get them on.

The only problem I have had recently is some staining of my teeth. I used Corsydol (clorhexidine) to aid the healing and to generally keep my teeth and gums healthy, but stopped when I noticed that I had some brown / yellow staining on my teeth.

It's worst around my right side lower molars - I think there may be some tartar there which is disappointing as I have always been very particular about cleaning my teeth. I tried Colgate Porfessional Weekly clean, but I've only be able to use it once (as recommended) with very little difference. My dentist also suggested I try Janina whitening toothpaste - it's ultra low abrasive and apparently one of the few whitening toothpastes that's safe for everyday use. I'm hoping that 2 weeks use of this will help to brighten my teeth before the braces go on (wishful thinking ?? :?: )

Anyway, ta-ta for now. Be back soon. SK :)
