Look at those upper laterals go! They can't wait to move into their new homes. :)

Isn't it weird how one tooth will hurt all of a sudden, then be fine the next day? When it happens, I run to the mirror when I first wake up to see what happened. I'm like a kid on Christmas morning!

Your progress seems absolutely amazing so far! Especially on the top. To me the top arch looks perfect :)

Thanks Ken and Jes!!

I will probably wait until my first adjustment on 20th October before I post anymore pics - I am hoping and praying that my ortho might just say that my time in braces will be less than predicted because my teeth seem to be moving quite fast!! :jump:

I know that they say that you see alot of movement in the 1st few months but I just cant see how I could need my braces for a total of 18mths??!! I have had no extractions so there are no gaps to close etc!!

Am I being too hopeful??

Great progress, metalmummy!

I have my fingers crossed for you that your treatment time is less than 18 months!

Your ortho most likely can't tell this early on in your treatment if you'll be less than 18 months, I'd just relax a bit and the time will fly past :)

I look forward to seeing your teeth progress!

Hello all!!!

Well, I am starting to get a bit nervous about my 1st adjustment on Monday!!! I have only just started to be able to bite into soft things with my front teeth!!

I am just looking for some advice really about what to expect on Monday??? I have Self Ligating braces so am guessing that I will just get a new wire but really dont know! There arent any ligs to change. When I went to get a loose bracket put back on a couple of weeks after brace day, when he pulled the bracket off the wire it honestly felt like he was going to rip my tooth out!!! I am imagining that it is going to be very painful when/if he removes the wires.

Is it advisable to take some pain killers before I go?? I have been looking forward to Monday but as it is approaching, I am getting nervous!! I also am prepared for lots of mushy food again and joining in my meals with my 8mth old son!!!

Any words of wisdom would be great!!!

Hi metalmummy!

I don't have self ligating braces so I don't know what an adjustment would entail, but I'm sure it's not too different from a normal adjustment!

I usually take 2 Neurofen about half and hour before an adjustment, but it's hardly ever painful anyway.

Your teeth will be tender for 3 or 4 days after the adjustment, nothing you can't handle though :)

Hello metalmummy,

Your teeth are on the move! The lowers are moving fast, you must be very happy :)

I do have self ligating braces (Damon) but I can't really tell you what to expect because everyone is difference and the pain tolerance varies from person to person.

They might change the wires, they might not. I have gotten the same ones on top (same thickness) but changed to new ones last time. Bottoms had gotten change the 3 times. I also got powerchains on my second adjustment.
Many things can happen but you should not be worry, they will do what they have to do.
As for the pain, take some Iboprufen before you go in (or the equivalent in the UK). There will be some discomfort but it should go away after a couple of days.

Try to eat soft food but keep chewing, the more you chew, the quicker your mouth will get use to the change.

Good luck on Monday. I hope is not too painful...just think how worth it will all be at the end :)

Well I had my 1st adjustment yesterday and it didnt go too bad!! When he took the wires off it didnt hurt at all but it was quite painful when he put the new wires on!!! lots of pressure!!!

He has put a thicker, rectangular wire on the top arch and has put 2 wires on the bottom!!!! I havent seen anybody else on here having 2 wires put on one arch!! so I had to go through the pushing twice on the bottom!!

When I came out of the orthodontists I felt a pop on the top right and went back in thinking the wire had popped out of one of the brackets but they said it looked fine so I came home. I was in LOADS of pain last night - my whole mouth and head ached - pretty much the same as brace day to be honest!! :( When I brushed my teeth before bed I noticed that one of the top brackets had come off!!!!!!!! That is what the pop was!!! So now I have to go back again on Thursday.

He was quite impressed with the movement and thinks that on my next adjustment in 8wks that they will be looking pretty much straight but explained to me that I shouldnt get too excited because then the thicker wires are used to straighten the roots of the teeth.

Oh well, still hoping for a reduced time in braces but who knows!!

I will post some pics later

2 wires on bottom

#41 Post by sdawdy »

I just had this contraption removed. The reason they used it on me was because my bite was so deep they had to lower my front bottom teeth so they would show more when my mouth was closed in its normal position. It is really a big pain in the....well you know....and takes extra cleaning. If you have not gotten a waterpik I would highly suggest getting one as this extra wire helps collect food even more than normal.

Well hello all!!! The night of my 1st adjustment I noticed that one of the brackets on my top lateral incisors had popped off!!! which meant another trip to the ortho!!! I went on Thursday to have the bracket put back on and OH MY GOD!!!!! the pain was unbelievable!!! give me childbirth any day!!!!! When he was getting the cement off the tooth the pain was unbearable!!! For some reason since the adjustment I have had sensitivity in that tooth to hot and cold and the pressure was so sore!! He then had to push hard on the wire to get it to click into the brackets (self ligating brackets) which made me feel like I was going to pass out it hurt that much! He then decided that it was hurting me too much so he was going to put a slightly thinner wire on which meant taking it off and doing it all again!!! OUCH!!!!

Anyway - pain over now - just left with pressure and am now unable to chew or bite into anything again but I am not happy with the way my teeth are looking today - I have developed a big gap between my 2 front teeth which I hate and hope closes very soon!!! Also, my bite doesnt seem right which is causing my openbite (if that is what it is called - the gap between my top and bottom teeth at the front) look even worse!!!

As promised here are some pics but bear with me there will be a few and if anyone can advise how to get them side be side to save space that would be great!!!

Well I cant believe it is SO long since I have posted on here!!!! Time does fly!!!!

I have now had my brace for 6.5mths and I had my 3rd adjustment on Monday.

When one of the top brackets popped off in October and had to be put back on, I think my ortho put it on in the wrong postition because that top tooth then pushed backwards?! He redid it on Monday so hopefully it will pull forward again.

So after another very painful wire change (dont know why it hurts me SO much but it does!!) I now have powerchains on the top and bottom after my ortho filing my teeth very slightly between front 4 top teeth and just middle two at the bottom to try and get rid of my triangles! I was in agony as soon as I left the ortho on Monday but it is easing now - I just have 2 big ulcers inside my bottom lip to give me pain instead!!!

My ortho is hoping my brace journey will be over before the end of this year and is thinking that the bottom arch is nearly done!!!

So, here are some updated pics! Looking at that last smile pic taken at 10wks my open bite has closed considerably and that awful gap that appeared between my two front teeth has sorted itself out too!!!

Beginning of journey:

I think that both arches have become noticably wider which was the intention!

What do you all think??!! Hope you are all well xxx

metalmummy wrote:Hello all - Well I dont really know whether I am doing this right but here goes - this is my story: I am a 29yr old Mum of 2 - a 3yr old little girl and I have a 6mth old baby boy!! I have been saying for years that I want to sort my teeth out but knew that I would struggle financially. When I was 15, I had a consultation with an orthodontist but never went ahead (regretably) so here I am 14yrs later with braces!!! I had my braces fitted on Friday and OMG the pain!!! That night I was in absolute AGONY!!! The next morning it had eased alot. On Sunday the brackets had started to irritate the inside of my lips so I used the wax and it now seems OK. I basically have crowded teeth - top and bottom - on the top my 2nd teeth are higher and twisted which are my main priority!! I cant wait for them to be down in line with my other teeth!!

The bottom teeth havent actually bothered me that much but they have been getting worse recently and since the brace was fitted and I can see the archwire twisting from tooth to tooth - it really shows how twisted they are!!!

So I have had the braces for 6 days and so far so good. I have ceramics on the top and metal on the bottom and am paranoid about staining the top ones!!! I also cant chew yet as my teeth are too tender so I am living on slop!!!

I anyone can teach me how to make my post look a bit more interesting let me know!!!
