ooooooooooooooooooook time for an update, it's not been good and I appologize for this lengthy update
As you all know from my story I got ripped off by my former dentist and went to an ortho he recommended (thinking about it now, I was stupid to do that) anyway, I thought he was such a great guy and he made some adjustments for me and then I decided I was just going to have him take those braces off (from the dentist) and start fresh and have him put top and bottom. He said for the treatment he had done it was going to be $1300 (oddly enough, that's the same amount of money I got back from the dentist who didn't finish the job)
When he took the braces off they gave me a temporary retainer and I went in for a consult in which he told me it was going to be $5200 to do Damon. My mom was furious and advised me to go back to the orthodontist I had when I was a kid (why I didn't do this in the first place, I don't know and I kick myself everyday) He said it was going to take less time than the Damon and they were only going to charge me $2050 (start to finish, retainers and all) since I'm getting retreated!
Obviously I decided to cancel my appointment with the other ortho and schedule one with my original (from when I was a kid) ortho. I GET RE-BRACED ON DEC. 15TH!!!
So I talked with the financial lady at the other ortho office (because talking with the Dr. is impossible with his patient load and his new huge practically a state of the art office) I let her know I was not going to be getting the braces and wanted to see what I should really be charged, not the full $1300 since I didn't get retainers. She called back and said retainers were $130 sooo I ended up paying him $1170 for not a whole lot. For those of you keeping track, thats $1400 to Dentist for the crappiest service and "work" I have ever received and $1170 to other ortho (my mom thinks they were in "cahoots")
I definitely feel I got ripped off and that I threw away so much money and like I said, I'm kicking myself everyday.
But anyway, re-brace on the 15th... I'm so wearing my retainers this time......

Oh dear, poor you, thats a lot to go through. Orthodontic work is expensive as it is without having to go pay oodles more. I really hope it works out for you this time.. i really hope I have a good ortho, time will tell. Good luck 3rd time around and lets hope that little toothy moves right where it should...

Yep tomorrow (Monday) I get re-braced.

I'm trying to eat the rest of my bagels so they don't go bad while I can't eat them.....

Looks like you're finally getting the service you deserve! Any chance of putting the claim through to get more of your money back from the original dentist?

Your teeth look quite straight now, starting with braces again. How long do you have to have these ones on for?

Hope your teeth are feeling less tender by the time the holidays roll around! I booked my next adjustment for AFTER Christmas dinner haha.

Switchblades, I was seriously contemplating waiting until after the holidays to get them on but decided to bite the bullet and I too hope that they don't hurt come Christmas dinner!
I don't really think there is much to do at this point to try to get some of my money back :( It was like pulling teeth (ha) to get him to refund the balance on my CareCredit. It angers me to think that he thought he truly deserved to get full payment even though he wasn't going to finish the work!
The ortho is shooting for 8 months... my teeth move so fast I would be stoked if it took less time! Technically this will be about a 2 year process.

oh my grneydfairym what a story!! glad to see you have found a decent ortho and things are going better. it's sad that this can happen. i just picked the ortho my dentist recommended, and i am happy so far. if i had read this forum a bit more, i would have interviewed several more orthos before i made my choice...
good luck
