Hi Marley

Just caught your story and I just wanted to say that you are doing great. You must be so pleased that your gap is opening up so well. You've come a long way really quickly. Your progress is really good.

Checked out your link, Jenn is really good!

Hello,

I had another adj. Still waiting for this gap to open a bit more. In March I'll be having xrays to for my ortho to check out the roots and whatnot!

These pictures aren't pretty, but I'm sure they will whenever this is all done :)

Wow your teeth are really progressing Marley!

Like you I also had a left lateral missing (extracted when younger) so it's really interesting to see your progress.

I have had so many gaps along my braces journey so I do sympathise with you! I have just started to see the light at the end of the tunnel and can finally see a nice smile developing :)

Good luck with the rest of your journey and keep us updated along the way!!

Well.. I'm a little late on the update!!

My original time I was given was 18-22 months. It has new been a bit over two years and I'm looking at a May or June debanding. I find out the actual date in 5 days :) The past two years has flown by!

I broke my camera a year ago and haven't gotten around to buying a new one. I will be taking new progress pictures tonight.

Keep updating all your stories. I enjoy reading them!

Here are a few pictures a year after I last posted an update!

I was looking forward to getting my braces off mid-June, but looking at these pictures scares me a bit. They don't seem ready!! I know he'll be tweaking things when the time gets closer.

So, I'm still working on my crossbite. I wear my elastics 24/7. The two years has flown by, and I'm in no rush to get them off if they're not ready - obviously!

I go in on Tuesday to get a date and see what's next.

A couple months after my braces are removed, I'll be getting an implant for my missing lateral. Right now I have a retainer with a flipper attached. I hate wearing it, so I go around toothless instead :)

Hi Marley,

You've come a long way for 2 years! It's almost unbelievable.
In a way my case is similar to yours but I'm missing two first premolars on the top. I'll try having my upper arch expanded so it could fit two implants there. Was it hard to open that gap there for you? Did you have to wear expanders?
I'm curious to hear about the flipper too. When did they make it? Why do you hate it? Is it uncomfortable? I'd be worried if I have to go with two gaps for months!

I have to get an implant too, but I don't have to wait until braces are off to start. I wonder why our procedures are different? I just had a bone graft, so it needs about 6 months to heal before they can put in the implant. But I will be getting the implant before my braces are off, which is about a year away.

Hi catfish! Probably it's ok to have your implant earlier because your space is fully formed? My ortho and the implant specialist also told me that I should wait until I get off the braces before starting the implant procedure but I didn't ask why. I just assumed it's probably because they don't want to affect the movement of the neighboring teeth and also it would be easier for the implant specialist to get access without all the wires around. Anyway, I think it's worth asking your ortho this question.

Thanks Ivette!

Once the space was made for my lateral, my ortho gave me a retainer with a tooth on it. It didn't look totally like a tooth, but it's still pretty good. I'd ask your ortho for one. You're paying good money!!

I don't wear mine because I love to sing and I can't sing with it in!!

The gap opened in no time. I got the coil put on Aug 07 and it was fully opened I'd say 9-11 months later. Maybe ever before. I didn't need to use an expander.

hey catfish,

Thats aweosme you'll be getting your implant with the braces. Once the braces come off you'll be done!! I never asked my ortho why. I did need the space to actually open.

Good luck to both of you with your adventures!! I'm going to see if you guys have stories I can read! It's nice reading other people who are going through sort of the same thing!

My space is from a tooth that was extracted when it's root broke. So it wasn't a tooth we wanted to remove. I bet that's the difference. You both need to make a space, and I need to fill one that opened itself.

Good luck with your journeys!

Thanks, Marley! You sound so positive that I feel better now with the decision I made, i.e. to try getting some space for implants on the top instead of extracting two teeth on the bottom. Hope it works for me too!

Ivette - from all the different stories I have read in the last two years, I am sure things are going to work out and your smile is going to look great!

Also, once the braces are on and the movement is happening. The spaces may not bother you AS much because you know you're working hard for your results. Being proud of yourself for making a big step.
