Hi Chelsea

I've been checking out your story since you started , and ran into some of your posts on the boards here. I'm glad to see you're almost thru with the preliminaries. It can wear on your patience once you're ready to go. I just went thru it myself after my ortho had me in a holding pattern, waiting to discuss my case w/ my reg. dentist. So, I finally got braced last week, about 2 months after my initial consult. Seems you have the added complication of distance (travel time). My ortho's office is literally down the street. I feel lucky about that.

You must be pretty excited, since you've wanted braces for a long time. I saw your pictures...Honestly you're a doll just some issues with your teeth...and I'm sure they're gonna look great after braces. Believe me, you're not old at all to be doing this. I'm probably your dad's age and have only had good reactions to my braces so far. Some people actually don't notice them at all. No way should they impact your social life. But as I'm sure you know , ortho treatment is not without it's pain and inconvenience. It's really so cool though, that people have perfected a way to move teeth like this. I'm already feeling the movement in my teeth, but I know it's gonna take some time. So, lots of luck getting started w/ your treatment, Chelsea! We're all here to listen and help. Keep posting...

Im impatient, indeed. The ortho assistant said she gets little brats in here all the time, and I tried to explain LOUDLY [so the rugrats could hear] that they should appreciate the fact that their parents are fortunate enough to have the funds to keep their smile beautiful and healthy. I really have waited years for this.

And thank you for the doll comment, that was one of my "im cute and innocent pictures". I cant wait to get those bad boys on, Im sure Ill be more confident with them. :]

I feel as if I already have braces on. Im so impatient. Like I really really honestly hope I will not have them on for 2 years, simply because I hate waiting, ecspecially for something as important as this! But I know why the duration is so long. Im just hoping my teeth move quickly and align straight and my canine falls into place. Urrf!

Hi Chelsea, just wanted to stop by & show your post some love. Thanks for dropping by my story & like I said we can share our woes/joys. I have a crossbite also & major top teeth protrusion. My ortho initially gave me a 2 yr sentence but I'm not even going to inquire @ my treatment consult because like Ken said it's gonna be a process that we will indeed learn about patience. But I'm so excited! (I just squealed )
Keep us posted & u really are a doll! Good luck with school. I know about being a broke student & I have a full time job. Enjoy your unemployed life while you can. Trust me!

Good luck with your braces journey! And thank you for the links. I definitely have to agree that extractions do change certain facial features, so I think this is a very important video for anyone to watch who is considering extractions vs. non-extractions. Wish I had known about this prior to getting extractions.

So ive been making a list of things to ask my ortho and one of the things is the bumps or ridges on my teeth. like the little humps? Ive done some research and theyre called Mammelon's and theyre common in like 8 year olds when their adult teeth come in, and that usually they wear down and such when the top arch and bottom arch meet. Well since I have misaligned teeth im assuming this is why I still have them...but when i was doing research it said that in older people they can be filed down, or crowned (i think?) and I was wondering if anyone had a similiar case? And would my insurance thats covering my braces cover the filing down or crowning?

Hi Chelsea,

Your ortho could file them down at the end of treatment, and this is generally included for no extra charge. Or you could do nothing and they will eventually wear down naturally, after your bite is corrected.

I had to chime in and say I was shocked to read that you were listening to Lita Ford. That brought back some memories. I saw her in concert when I was in High School. Just after "Kiss Me Once" came out. I think she opened for Poison. I guess I'm dating myself.

It sounds like you're excited to get braced. I got mine two months ago. It's been a bit of a bumpy road getting used to them both physically and emotionally, but it gets easier.

Good luck. I'm sure you'll be on the path to a perfect smile in no time. Oh yeah my ortho said she'd file too shape and even out my teeth if needed at the end at no charge. I think they want to have happy satisfied customers just like anyone providing a service.

hi! I wanted to respond to your comment on filing teeth. My ortho has filed a few of my teeth down already. The front teeth have been filed to look straight, the were uneven (one longer than the other and had a chip on the side) She has also filed between my teeth to make some room and to help with the space thats formed between my two front teeth (we are still working on that) it doesn't hurt, it almost tickles!! lol It looks like a drimmel tool almost ( if you know what that is) and the filing between the teeth looks like a little piece of sandpaper! We have a similar story, keep us posted! where are you from? Im in texas.

Okay so this coming Monday is my next appointment. Ive noticed that Ive gotten very very anal when it comes to my teeth recently. My routine of brushing has changed immensely. I even went out and bought a Listerine whitening pen, just to get these puppies a little whiter before braces. I will say that I do see a little bit of improvement when it comes to the whitening but I would suggest buying the more expensive kind. After braces I will deff be getting more whitening treatments.

I have some concerns though. I have weird gumlines, which is noones fault but mine. Like from 10-13 years old I just didnt care about my teeth. Like I honestly didnt. My mentality was that since theyre already ugly why care? But I decided that I should care, however by the time I decided this damage was already done. The gum lines receeded on the top from plague build up I believe. But in all honesty...as far as I can remember teeth wise, my gums have always been like this. Except when I had my baby teeth, now those were cute! I dont want a skin graft or anything...when the teeth move would it possibly make my gum lines more "pretty"?

Well, I guess Ill have to see what the ortho says. So far he hasnt mentioned any extractions, but Im afraid to mention my right wisdom tooth is catching the side of my cheek and making it sore. But it only becomes sore every once in a while. Meh I can always get them removed I suppose!

Okay so my appointment is less than an hour away and I thought id update a bit before. Oy vey has this weekend been hell. Went home, and gosh it was like urff! Then I pretty much got dumped by the guy im madly in love with. 3 years. But today we seemed to work things out for the time being. Anyway! I recieved my approval from my insurance in the mail and I guess they requested 4 years of insurance approval time! EEEEK. Does this mean Ill have braces on for 4 years? My appointment today is talking about my treatment so Ill let you guys know.

I hope you had a good appointment yesterday! I am new to your story but you are like me. I was very detirmined to get the braces. I didn't have the money to jus t"get them on as soon as I decieded I wanted them" I started my story on arch wired in September and just now braced on the 16th. Anyways, I can't wait to read more on your journey!
