I am so happy for you not having to get spacers...yuck...you will be getting you braces just as I am getting mine off. As far as the colors my favorite was a metallic purple. But towards the end no color as the brand of powerchains that my OD uses the silver is the strongest...

Hey sdawdy I hope you still stick around AW although you will probably be more focused on the after braces messages. I hope you still check on me to give me advice. I like the metallic colors as well. Thanks  And enjoy your new smile.

SUch similar case to mine, I mean your teeth condition. I have cross bite on one sitem like yours, and ptroding fron teeth (top and bottom, top being slight more protruding) Do you need to get extractions?

Hi Gracey
No I don’t have to get any extractions. I had my wisdom teeth removed a few years ago. So my OD doesn’t think we will need to remove anymore.

Ok today is day #6 since getting my braces and all is well. Let me go back a few days. On the day of my appointment, right before, I went to Wendy’s and pigged out. When I got to the office I didn’t have to wait long and that was good because I was so anxious. I took my 5 year old daughter with me for moral support and she was the best. When I was called to the back I was told that the panoramic x-ray that I had taken the week before came out blank and had to be taken again. Ok fine. We did that then I was led to “the chair”. I explained to my daughter that I would have the separators in my mouth for a while and would not be able to answer any questions for a while. The assistant and the OD were great about answering her questions about the braces and the equipment and they put her in a good spot so she could see the whole procedure.
Anyway, my OD came in and cleaned my teeth, put in the blue separators and got started gluing brackets. This was absolutely painless. After all of the brackets were placed, the OD left to allow the assistant to apply the archwire and the rubber ligatures. At this time I still had not seen the brackets so I asked for a mirror because I instantly felt like Lisa from the Simpsons. To my surprise they weren’t as poked out as I thought. So while I’m checking out my new hardware, the assistant was cutting and burning the ends of the wire. I could feel pressure immediately after the left side of the wire was attached to the top back bracket and she pulled on it like a shoelace to lock in the other side. Then as she was attaching the wire on the right side on the bottom, the bracket broke off. I didn’t even feel it but the assistant called the OD back in and she re-glued it back and then attached the wire to the buccal bracket and showed the assistant how she wanted the wires “bird-beaked”, snipped and bent. So on went the rest of my metallic magenta rubber ligs that my daughter picked. I was given a cheesy water bottle filled with much of nothing. One pack of wax, 2 ortho toothbrushes (one travel size, floss threaders (no floss) and a dental mirror. Luckily I had already ordered a dental kit and bought a bunch of stuff from every drug store and supermarket I passed the few weeks before getting braces. My next appointment was set for 4 weeks.
As soon as I left I realized that nobody showed me how to brush. I had asked the OD if someone would show me and she said yes. Maybe she was assuming the assistant would do it. It’s ok because there is enough info on this site to learn. Although I am interested in what she thinks is the proper way.
It was my first night of class that evening and I was concerned with being in pain because my OD said I would start feeling pain in about 4 hours. I continued to feel pressure but no pain.
Eating has been the only real problem for me. All of my teeth feel loose and hurts to chew anything. Eating a donut felt like eating rocks. Everyday there is a different area that I can chew a little. I didn’t have to use any wax until about day 3 and I need it more and more everyday but I’m not sure if it is because something is moving or because I have been talking and smiling a lot more these last few days. (I have always smiled a lot and real big.) I loved my smile but didn’t like my teeth which is why I can’t wait for my teeth to be straight so that I can love both and smile bigger (if that’s possible). I’m so happy with my braces. Right now I still don’t quite know how to position my lips. Every time I look in the mirror I appear to be making a mean face. I have to practice.

@Mikesmile- Thanks so much. I plan to try most of the colors before it’s over. Today is your brace day. :-)o I’ll be checking to see how things went.

Thanks wycket and Ken. It has gotten better. I LOVE  :pinkbraces:  my braces. I no longer feel pain or pressure. Still weird to eat but I have found a few spots that work for me and I’ve eaten everything. I bit into a burger yesterday. :jump:  I tried not to do the soft diet and I’ve read that its better if you continue to eat normally (if you can). I’m looking forward to my first adjustment. Not sure if I’ve had any movement yet. That will be exciting. I have taken more pictures but have not compared them yet. It’s only been 10 days. I want to be shocked  when I finally look so I’m waiting a little while. I probably wont post any until my adjustment and when I get my new color ligs.

Today is my first adjustment. I am so excited. I don’t know why because they probably wont do anything different today other than change my lig colors. (but what do I know  ) I am excited about that though. I’ve had enough of these pink ones. I think I’m going to get blue. I haven’t decided between light and dark yet. My teeth were actually sensitive this morning and yesterday while brushing. Well I made it though my first month without any broken brackets or too much discomfort.
Anyone have anything interesting done at their first adjustment?
