Wedding day in 11 months - braces just fitted for openbite!

#1 Post by brace bride2b »

I've just this week had braces fitted to treat my openbite. I'm seeking out fellow openbite sufferers who've had treatment. I want to find out how far along correction can be at the 11 month mark as I'm getting married in March 2010.

I know it seems stupid to do this when there's a huge event on the horizon requiring smiley photos. However, I decided I wanted to have my bite corrected prior to my boyfriend proposing, we're a little limited with wedding dates due to an overseas relocation being on the cards, and I know that I'll be in the same country now for the next two years (rough treatment time). Plus, I'm not having my bite corrected for the wedding I'm having it corrected for life (hopefully!!) and our wedding is for life and not just about how we look on that one day (even though I obviously want to look amazing for my husband to be!!).

So, my ortho's plan is braces for 2 years, extraction (two from the top arch) 6 months in, then tads later down the line (12-18months). He's also set up a consult with a surgeon to see if jaw surgery is an option, although he's ruled it out as my profile is good and I pretty much freaked out when he mentioned jaw surgery, still he's set up the consult for me....

My biggest concern at the minute is how I'm going to look in 11 months time. I really want to push to have the extractions now, so there's plenty of time to close the gaps. But then I also think what if I dont end up needing the extractions and thats why he wants to wait till we're six months in... but then I dont want to have massive gaps in my smile on my wedding day. Before I started treatment I had full confidence in the ortho as he said he would ensure I had a wedding-worthy smile in 11 months time, but now I'm on day 3 with braces all the doubt has started creeping in....

Oh and I forgot to say the ortho is going to take my braces off for my wedding day, this has been built in to my package and there apparently quite used to doing it for adult patients.

Can any fellow overbite sufferers tell me anything about how long it took for your gaps from extractions to close?
What was the progress of your treatment 11 months in??

Any other advice??

I wish I could tell you what the gaps would look like in 11 months but I am not sure anyone can know for sure. At least your ortho is willing to remove your braces for the wedding mine didn't like that idea and encouraged me not to do it.

I sometimes get caught up with the emotion that my wedding photos will have a shiny gleam to them but in my more rational moments I realize the wedding vows and the excitement of the day and sharing it with family and friends is what is important.

sounds like like you have a pretty handle on your situation and may your marriage plans go smoothly.
