Ok...so, this thing on the inside of my molar band, needs to go back home to it's mommy and daddy...AND LEAVE MY TOUNGE ALONE!!!!!! It's not bad, really....but it rubs against the side of my tounge, and...I....do...not....like....it.

I think your right Mike, I do believe that I heard the Ortho say something about a "cleat" (don't know if that's how you spell it) but...I just assumed, and you know what they say when you assume, that he was using a baseball referance.

I'm gonna take a picture of the damn thing....in fact...I'm gonna name it...like I did my roid when I was pregnant. Harry the hemmroid. This is gonna be named....Buffy. Buffy the bump, or should it beeeee.....Nelly the nobb??
Whatever....just wish my tounge would leave it alone.

Opera gal...you wouldn't happen to have a picture of that would you??? Either on your own teeth...or your wind up ones....cause I'm really thinking of doing it....but just wondered what it's going to look like. Did your dental tech look at you like...what? What? You want a different color on EACH tooth?! I'm worried I'll tick her off if I ask. We'll see.

Toodles for now peeps....

Yeah that cleat annoys me sometimes too. I have one on my molar band on my crown. You get used to it but it seems every once in a while I'll sleep with my mouth clenched and my tongue dug into it all night.

I posted a pic of the chattering braces on my story, but it isn't the clearest on the planet. I'll try again soon.

8/20/10: braced removed (18mons, 18days), hawley retainers T/B
9/16/10: LR central incisor extracted (failed root canal)
2/23/11: implant/bone graft
9/15/11: implant crown placed, lower lingual bonding corrected
9/21/11: upper bonding on lateral gaps from upper arch forward advancement
10/17/11: new hawley retainers w/plastic tubing over the 'social six' wire, both T/B

Buffy's still parsssing me off.

My teeth are really tender this time around after my adjustment/molar band excitment. My bite is becoming quite lopsidded. Which makes it really hard to chew anything hard. The only way my teeth line up in the back, is if I shift my jaw way over to the right, and even then they don't completelly touch. If I shift to the left, that's a total no go. I can't get any to line up (touching) that way, and my front, well actually...for the first time in...in.....well I think ever, they actually line up (touching)!!!! WTH?????

GOD!!!!!!...I'm gonna be in braces forever!! EVER!!! I'll have white hair, saggy boobs and arss, and by then, will need FAKE TEETH....so all of this will be for nothing!!!!! :yikes:

I went from having super crooked teeth, to now I have kinda crooked teeth and a super crooked bite. What's next? A tounge the length of Gene Simmons.....wait...hmmmmmmm

Oh well, at least I'll be old(as in over 90) with straight teeth. All the guys in the nursing home will want somma dis...boo ya

Today is my 7th month BRACEAVERSARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YipeeYipeeSkipeeeeeeee-YipeeYipeeSkippeeeeeee.....

Ahhhh, I remember back  during the first days...when each day seemed like a week....when I thought I'd never get to chew food again. Real food, that is..not liquid...soft food.
Back when  brushing and flossing took so long my arm got tired and my husband fell asleep before I made it to bed.
Back when  I use to stare at my smile every single chance I got...in any object that reflected back my new....soon to be (or I thought) straight smile.
Back when  every moment I could....I would talk about my braces...like they were my kids.
Back when  I was too afraid to kiss my man hard...or in hard places...for fear of the dismemberment I might cause.

Now...I don't look in the mirror so much...flossing, hell...I've got that down to a science. I eat pretty much whatever I want, if it's to much for my braces, I just mush it to death. Other people bring up my braces more than I do now, and....and....my husband, well....lets just say skin is meant to callus up...isn't it?

7 months down....anywhere from 17-23 to go....lovin EVERY minute of it, wouldn't change one single thing, the pain is totally worth it, the looks, the comments, my 3 yr old telling my I have "rail road tracks" on my teeth. You name, best darn decision I've made in quite sometime. :D

All you fencers out there.....teeter no more......get er done. Totally worth it!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN PEEPS

First off...opera gal....saw the picture of your rainbow teeth...nice. Ingenious. Would have never thought to keep those.

Now, I just got done brushing my teeth, and was pondering how I have come to take much better care of my teeth, more than ever. My husband says that nobody, NOBODY...spends as much time on their teeth as I do...and I beg....to differ. I mean, come on...I'm spending THOUSANDS of dollars. At that price the only thing entering my mouth should be a tooth brush! That and a recess peanut butter cup, of course.

Anyway he thinks that my last step in teeth love making is useless...so..I decided to post what I do and see if you all think it's stupid.

First I brush my teeth with a sonic care tooth brush, love it...just frickin love it. Then I water pik, usually I'm soaking wet by the end of this. Next I floss. Pretty much have that down to a science. Takes maybe 2 to 3 min. Love the Crest floss with the harden end. Makes it sooooooooooo much easier. Now these next parts....ya, this is where my husband thinks I'm a wastin my time. Anyway, I then brush by hand with a little kids tooth brush, cause they have the super soft bristles. I don't spend a whole lot of time doing this, but...I do make sure to get each tooth individually. And last but not least....(the very part that my USAF man thinks is wasting valuable alone time)....would be..I then do not rinse out my toothpaste from that last brushing...and I use one of these.....(available at any local WalMart in a 5 pack)Image

to go and brush any exposed part of the tooth and then all around each bracket top, sides and bottom. Now, I just started doing this about...ohhhhh 6 weeks ago to 2 months, because normally...I do not drink coffee. But, now that the weather is getting colder I will have it every now and then, maybe twice a week. Anyway, I was worried it would stain my teeth. So...that's what started that. Now that I do it, I'll probably never stop, even when I stop drinking coffee when the weather warms up. BECAUSE....I was looking at one of my posts....the one where I am pointing at a tooth, and I'm wearing the BLUE ligs...and holy mother of tooth fairy happiness.....were my teeth a hell of a lot whiter than before. Now, I don't have the greatest looking teeth. Thanks to NEVER going to a dentist, never taking care of them till the last year or so...AND, I've got very small teeth, so the brackets take up quite a bit of my tooth...space. But since I've started doing this, I have seen a great difference. Waste of time or not, my mind thinks it works and really, that's alllllllllllllll that matters. I don't do it every time I brush, but I do, do it....at least in the morning and at night. Love it....just love. It's like a little bit of heaven right here on brace land earth.

Heck NO its not a waste of time! Two things....I love the kids toothbrush for the top and bottom of the brackets, I use one after using my Oral-B electric. Then I use the little dentek for between my teeth...like the molars, after an adjustment it feels really good. I actually just recently am able to do this, because about 2 months ago my teeth were too tight together. After that, i use the GUM proxabrush between the brackets.
This of course is after i've flossed and used the RediBreeze...and then I use the RediBreeze again.
My orthos assistant actually told me that there was no way i could clean my teeth any better than i am. She looked at the brackets and the ligs after she took them off, and they were almost spotless. Which is awesome. Not a waste of time! Totally worth the 5 minutes in the morning, rinsing all day and 20 minute routine at night.

I was at the office today to get some wires snipped off and while in the waiting room with a few others my ortho came in to fix himself a cappuccino and offered the rest of us one. He just saw me last week so I'm pretty sure he knew I had braces! So if he's offering me a coffee, I'm not going to worry about drinking one or two a week.

I had braces as a teen and we all know teenagers eat ANYTHING. I drank cola and ate cheese puffs and all that great stuff from the 80's. When mine came off back then, I didn't have any staining or any marks from the brackets. I'm WAY more careful now about brushing and eating even before getting braced so I'm not that concerned about stains.

Ok, so...I've got kind of a strange question. One that I've been pondering for awhile now. Why is it, that one would clench one's teeth???? :?

For some time now, I've been waking up to...me clenching my teeth. Why? Why is this. :? I'm not an angry person. I don't wanna beat up small children. I don't go to bed miffed. I have lovely dreams. Yet, I repeatedly wake up with my teeth clenched...hard, to the point where I feel considerable relief in my jaw muscles when I stop.
Once in a while I'll find that I'm doing this during the day also, but...no so much, as I can't really touch my back teeth. Only when I lay down can I do this as my jaw shifts back as I relax into happy land.

Just curious. Sitting here wondering should I lock myself to the bedpost, cause I'm subconsciously wanting to hurt others? Maybe it's the dog. Maybe my lack of love for the dog is now coming out...through my teeth. CHRIST....I've been found out. I...don't....love....the dog!!!!!
Ok, ya I know, a bit far fetched (no pun intended, cause god knows this dog couldn't find his arss let alone go fetch something) Anyway, been having headaches...I'm thinking the 2 are related. Course, the headache could be from the dog too........hmmmmmmm.

Dogs, kids, and a husband and I'm really wondering why I'm clenching my teeth. :? :?

As your teeth move, especially the molars and pre-molars (bicupsids) they no longer mate up well. Grinding is a natural response to this as your mouth is working to try to bring things back into alignment. Of course if your dog is like our dog, it could be part of your dog's evil scheme to get rid of you.

Before braces my bite was perfect, and i didn't grind or clench. With braces my bite is off and on all the time...when its off i clench really bad. Sometimes just sitting on the couch i have to make myself stop.
When my bite was perfect i would suck in my cheeks while sleeping. My dentist thought maybe it had to do with my missing laterals. Something about my mouth missing something...his cousin, my ortho, didn't think that made sense. They're a funny pair.
Speaking of dogs....my younger Boston snores so loud that we have to turn the TV up, and sometimes leave bed in the middle of the night to wake him up so he stops. Poor thing probable doesn't get adequate oxygen. Makes me laugh just thinking about it.

Ok...first off HAPPY VETERANS DAY!!! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU GUYS....AND GALS...DO!!!!

Anyway, got my teeth cleaned today. Such joy. There use to be a time where I absolutely dreaded going to the dentist. Wouldn't go, unless I absolutely had to. Then, I slowly started going...knowing my teeth and gums were bad, real bad....and if I wanted them past the age of 50...I needed to start going and buckin up. Now, today....I think I was actually...humming....yes..humming as I was driving to the appointment. WTHIUWT?????????

Shortest appointment I ever had. I was sad. I wanted more alone time with my dentist/hygienist. I mean...we've spent so much time in the past together that I almost felt slighted. (sniff, sniff) Anyway she/he was like everything is looking good, gums have come a long way...keep up the great job (evidently brushing a little too hard on the bottom 2 and was told to ease up a bit) but other than that...when she said she was finished..I was like...huh? Wa?? But, but....I just got comfy. She's like, "No, this is a good thing to be done in under 2 hours". (45 min to be exact) This is a good thing to not hear a bunch of scraping. This is a good thing your nails haven't left marks in your arms. It means....it means.....your progressing in your oral care. But...but.....ohhh, ok. I'll get up and go.

I've got a long road ahead of me. But I've come a long way (dentist's exact words :D ), and I hate to say it....but my title, is no longer. I no longer am a "scared little school girl". Naughty...maybe. Scared....nadda.

On VaCa....for a couple days and my top left lateral incisor...the one that just does not want to play well with others. The one who has wanted to hide behind others for sooooooo long. The one who I have watched, intently, since the day it was braced many moons ago, who I have stared at day in, and day out at in the mirror saying....."move...just move....please, move...just a titch...come on....move, please, have you moved yet...have ya, have ya, hmmm...move, please....move. Has, I see...this morning, moved. AND, is almost completely come out from behind my front, left tooth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, that's all. I'm excited. Just thought I would share my excitement. I mean, it's only been that way for 37 yrs. And to think the few days that I wasn't watching it, it decided to move. It must be shy. I guess, I'll just peek a look every now and then, until it's comfortable being in the limelight....cause as soon as that baby is fully out....I'm taking a picture of it, so it better be ready to shake it's money maker baby!!!!!!!!
