Got braces last month , 20 years old.. (photos inside)

#1 Post by tripleh3lix »

Hey everyone, I'm completely new here. I will be around for the next 18-24 months for my treatment time. I'd like to introduce myself, my names Richard, 20 years old nice to meet all of you and look forward to getting to know you all. I got braces fully (with the wires) the 12th of November and they hurt really bad the first 3 and a half weeks. they finally calmed down, then i got them tightened a week and a half later , doh! However they have been really satisfying cause I already am seeing results. Not as good as some people on here, but good enough for now until i see new ones :) Anyways I have a question or two, and also want to show off my progress so far. First question, are they supposed to be sensitive the whole treatment time? I told them they felt a bit too tight, and they told me they were actually normally tight and not overly tight. They hurt to chew anything like a burger, a sandwhich, or anything that includes my front teeth. or anything as hard as a rough piece of meat just hurts on "all teeth". Is this normal?

Okay thats one question, two is the progress picture.

Okay I'm so sorry to triple post, but you cannot edit these posts at all until after 7 posts, that includes photos. Anyway..

Those are some great changes in those 2 photos! I love seeing people's progress photos. It really helps me have patience with my own teeth!

My teeth are still wobbly almost 2 months in. I can't bite into anything harder than a banana with my front teeth. I put it down to them still being on the move. I'm thinking they'll feel this way for the duration of movement. Once the final wire does in there'll be no where left for them to go so they can finally rest in place.

I'd have to disagree there ;). Looking at your two pictures and comparing them side by side, I can see a great difference in your 4.5 weeks of having braces!.

I would say this is normal, I have experienced the exact same thing. I've had my braces 4 weeks yesterday and my teeth were soooooo sore for the first 3 weeks, then they calmed down (the front ones seem to be sore again the past couple of days though) which was great. I couldn't bite into anything with my front teeth, NO matter how soft. So in the end I didn't bother, I would just cut up my food into smaller pieces and literally put it straight in my mouth and chew on the back teeth (but even they hurt too, but a little more bearable than the front teeth).
Braces: Metal fixed upper and lower
Estimated treatment time: 18-24 months
Braces Removed: August 2013 (after 33 months in braces)
Retainers: Upper & lower essix and lower bonded

Yes that's exactly what I think! They feel like the two teeth that are moving the most right now aside from my bottom part of my mouth, and they hurt to bite into literally anything. Thank you for the compliments, that makes me feel so much better... i wish i could have whitened these a little before i got these on since my teeth are so yellow from childhood. Just saw your progress pictures, yours are looking fantastic as well. Really great progress! everything is aligning up nicely in place :)

Awe thank you! Yes it's a pain to have them since now the metal is getting to my gums (when they really didn't at first) but I will deal with the progress on these :)

I thought I was alone here! Thank god i'm not. And yeah they are a pain in the butt to chew, cause each little few teeth get sore every other day and it's annoying on knowing where you can't chew because you sometimes don't know and it hurts after you start chewing a little on it. However I learned, do NOT eat anything that requires chewing after getting your braces tightened for the first few days. It will help with the pain SO much because your teeth are numb when you get them tightened, and when I first got mine on i made the mistake of going to el pollo loco and eating a huge burrito. Man I was in pain for the first 3 weeks, it blew! However try what I said and see if it helps :) It's helped me, mine are still sore from my tightening on the 11th, but they aren't nearly as bad cause i could chew the 3rd day compared to 3 weeks later lol :) and yes I do that with pears.. I have to digest all this "pasta" and it gets hard after a while if you know what I mean, so i just cut up a bunch of fruit into small pieces and eat it. pears are the easiest cause they are softer.
