Pretty sure I want to discontinue my braces. PLS HELP!!

#1 Post by Bananabongo »

Does anyone know if your teeth return to the same as they were before braces? I am so unhappy with how things have turned out I am looking longingly at my old photos of overcrowded bottom teeth and that gap at the top!! I now have a big underbite on one side and my midline is totally off :-( This was not the case before braces. I suspect my ortho is not the best. I am pretty much decided I just want the thing off. Yes I know it cost a lot of money but I would rather actually set fire to the same ammount of money than have this underbite, sticking out jaw and thinning face. I also could not handle the stress of taking anyone to court etc. I'd just be relieved to move on.

So please does anyone know - are they likely to return to how they were? Thanks.

Life is too short! Find a different Orthodontic. Ortho works, you just need a good one you trust. Find a good one and forget about the one you currently have and any money that you may lose. Move on and be happy. Remember that you have the power to be happy, you just need to do it.

Thanks but I don't have the money to go to another orthodontist. The one I am with was recommended and I thought I could trust him. I want to move on by getting them removed. I just need to know what are the chances of them returning to how they were? I preffered them before!

Things get worse before they get better.Maybe you should just have patience.
I got braces to correct a bimaxilliary protrusion, meaning my upper and lower teeth stuck out and were slanted instead of straight.
In the straightening stage, my teeth were actually made to stick out more as a result of straightening (meaning worsening a bit), but now we are moving things back. After 6 months....so maybe you just need to be patient.
Do you have pics?

Hi. I don't have pics. I now have a noticeable underbite that I didn't have before and my chin sticks out. My teeth have moved many times while having the brace (1 year so far). The ortho told me they would keep changing and I was fine with this. However, when I saw him a couple of days ago he told me how they are now is the final position! (i.e. with the underbite). OR he said I could have 2 extractions from the bottom which should eventually remove the underbite - but I don't want to because my face is noticeably thinner since having the brace I have actually put a bit of weight ON). I already have high cheek bones and am worried if I have extractions I will end up with sunken cheeks - as have several people it seems :-/
If I had known of these risks (of face thinning and underbite, possible sunken cheeks) I would not have had a brace. None of these things were explained to me. I prefer my original teeth to how they look now.

So I'm still wondering - do the teeth return to their original position if braces are removed and no retainers used?
